German course for english speakers

Hello everyone,

Does anyone of you know any german courses especially for english speakers? Most likely in Bern or in Zürich. My boyfriend's from Canada, he did a course at the Migros Klubschule but it didn't help much and he thinks it would help a lot to have german classes thaught in english.

I'm happy about every little tip.

Thanks a lot!

Re: German course for english speakers

Sorry but I'm a it confused, a German course taught in English? Classes are normally taught only in German with no other language being spoken in class. In my German class we have 6 different nationalities speaking 6 languages so speaking English would not work.

Re: German course for english speakers

When I learned English and French in school in Germany the courses were taught entirely in German: all the explanations of grammar, sentence strucutre etc. were done in German.

Alas, saying that dates me a bit... it has become the norm for languages to be entirely taught in the language you are learning, especially in the large language schools. But I do look back and sometimes think it can help to get a clear explanation of some of the more difficult grammatical rules in your native tongue... Perhaps having a teacher that can move back and forth with you after class or in private sessions might help.

Cheers

Re: German course for english speakers

I'm attending beginner German at Migros Klubschule and we have about 8 different nationalities in the class. The teacher speaks in German but she will say it in English if we don't understand. One of the first things she did was check if everyone could speak some English, however I have heard her explain things to people in Spanish and even attempt some Arabic. Perhaps your boyfriend should try again or try a school with smaller classes, my boyfriend is in a class of 3 and his teacher is also quite happy to explain things in English if they are having problems.
