Google is my friend [tips for translation]

Hello All. I just moved here from Savannah Ga. USA 1 week ago. And it has been a whirlwind experience to say the least. Surprisingly we have not starved .

I appreciate this forum and the advice i have been able to receive thus far.

I know this has been mentioned previously but just wanted to point out a couple of helpful tips for language translation .

1). If you have a website that is in a language other than english, you can do a search for it on Google and there will be a link next to the site (usually) that says [translate]. Just click this link and the page usually comes up preety good in english.
2. http://babelfish.yahoo.com is another excellent source. It allows for various language translations. Just enter the words/phrases and it does a good job. There is also a link for website translation but I have not used that yet.

About the toughest thing for me so far is learning to type on the keyboards here... My Y's and Z's are backwords... .

Anyway, hope this helps.

Chow.

Carl.

Did you do like the illiterate do - look at the pictures of Maggi and Knorr packages and buy the most appealing?

By the way: Welcome! I don't doubt, you'll make your way over here just like many others have made it. And if in doubt, just post a question - the funnier, the more replies you'll get.

Horse meat is common in Europe.

In regards to your keyboard, consider getting a QWERTY (US keyboard) and you'll be right as rain

And the Google Translate page is great too: http://translate.google.com/translate_t?hl=en#

It sometimes it gets confused when you add an e instead of using an umlaut though.

mind if I explain ?

In German and Swiss German, you will find many words with an "umlaut", basically: ü ä ö, like in the word Zürich.

For languages, keyboards, typewriters that do not have/recognize the "¨" the letter "e" is placed after the vowel, so it can be spelled, Zürich or Zuerich.

You will come across this variation very often.
