| | Moving Companies - Lausanne to UK
Hi all
After 10 great years here, it looks like we may be moving to Surrey - I'm still in shock
As I know many people who move away stay on EF, I was wondering if anyone had a particularly good experience with a moving company? This move will be self funded so price will be a consideration.
Thanks in advance
Nats

Try Luker Brothers; reputable international moving company entre La Suisse et l'Angleterre. With the present CHF et GB sterling exchange rate, very favo(u)rable conditions to emply this UK based company.

Before choosing LB do a search on the forum for them, they are a very hit or miss company and there are a few stories about them already on here. | Quote: | | | | | Try Luker Brothers; reputable international moving company entre La Suisse et l'Angleterre. Hi,
I only know of the biggies. As price is the primary consideration, please find below the list, ranked accordingly to the cheapest price: - Team Allied/Allied Pickfords(British co)
- Schneider
- Interdean
- Packimpex
- Crown Relocation
Let me know if you like to use Team Allied. I have used them and I can refer you to someone there.Good luck with your move!

Hi,
I am also trying to arrange a move from Basel to the UK, and am really struggling to get company's interested in the business!
I have managed to get a really reasonable quote from France Removals - about a third cheaper than Crown Relocation - though as we haven't moved yet I don't know how good these guys are.
So far Allied Pickfords I have been really unimpressed with - lovely to speak to on the phone, but 4 phone calls chasing them to send someone out to do a quote and still no one has arranged the visit.

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I didn't encounter any problems with Allied Pickfords in Zurich. In comparison to Crown, they are obviously a smaller unit but doesn't seem to be affecting their service. In fact, their customer service (eg response time etc) is better than Crown.I have used both companies in Switzerland.
Who is your contact in Allied?

We helped a friend pack up for removal to UK and now know who not to use. What a useless bunch! Carrying out one small box down three flights of stairs at a time. OH had to help them unscrew the nuts/bolts on the bed to dismantle! PM me for further details [although I really would like to name 'em and shame 'em here!

They won't be the cheapest but the best Swiss company in the Romande I ever used are: http://pelichet.ch/Removal_Enterprise_-_Pelichet.php
We've used these guys too, and they weren't bad: http://www.demenagement-cevey.ch/index.html
We've used LB to ship the odd items over from the UK. I personally wouldn't use them to ship my home.
I've moved around a hell of a lot over the years. My advice would be always go for somebody with a strong local presence because the key factor is the quality of the packing on the departure end. For any international move you should also check if they will do the whole move themselves or if they'll be using agents (ie another removal firm) in the arrival country to complete the transport and do the unpacking. If so you need to ask them who they'll be using and check them out as well.

Like Nev,I move quite a bit due to job relocations.I totally agree with the above points.Price is important but the key factor is the quality of the packing.I usually prefer to use a company that does the whole move. The main worry here are issues that may arise with customs/authorities etc in the arrival country.Using the same company upon departure and arrival will usually lessen issues such as service quality/consistency,accountability etc.If the company is using an agent on the other end,you must do a background check on them especially if their reputation is not well-known.
Most of the time, I use Crown and Allied. As they are MNCs, they normally do the whole move and have strong local presence.
At the end of the day,you have to decide what are your main considerations and ranked them.By using them as your guidance,it will help you to weigh the pros and cons of each co and make your final decision.

Could anyone tell me the cost of moving a couple of boxes (maximum 4 cubic meters) from Zurich to Glasgow? Or at least which company I should prefer?

Oh, how incidental.
Just today I used the site you mention, requesting a quote from 5 main operators for an international (CH to US) move. I have two previous quotes from Crown and Interdean, who immediately sent a person to see at home, and then sent quotes.
Today I received a list from a company to compile myself (lots of questions in addition, as I can't eyeball the parking space of a truck ), and from another I got a call, saying they will ballpark it, and then send a more detailed one once I say I am interested.
So - I'll let you know what the outcome will be, but so far I am happy I have also called some companies directly.

We used Interdean for our international move so can only speak from experience. The Bruxelles end were nothing short of superb. They took endless trouble, the packaging was more than adequate and we were totally satisfied. However, the Geneva unpacking team were careless, caused damage and had a "couldn't care less attitude"; when we pointed out some damage it was "C'été pas nous" - well who else would it be? It was them and eventually they admitted liability to the tune of over €800. Whilst we can thoroughly recommend one arm of the organisation, the Swiss end uncharacteristically sadly/badly let the company down.
