The USA has a massive amount of debt to the rest of the world (ie China), it's been living of borrowed money for decades. At some point it will have to pay of this debt. Do you really want to go there and help them pay this debt ? | | | | | OK so firstly you don't have a "farmer's knowledge" of economics. Japanese rice farmers invented the Option, and farmers have been at the forefront of economics for hundreds of years. Anyway I've highlighted the incorrect portion of your post in bold.

Which means that if they decide to to attract the best and brightest by waiving tuition they can do so at their discretion - none of your precious tax dollars were harmed/wasted by that decision.
And the US economy benefits a lot from highly educated people staying in the US after their studies. | | | | | Not only that but scholarships are often given by donors for specific types of students. We don't know that the scholarship being offered is not being sponsored by the Turkish gov't or a Turkish businessman or 100s of other possibilities.

I mean that is up to them isn't it?

I'm Swiss and studied in Switzerland. Now I have a post-grad job at Purdue in the US.
If you wanna know my opinion, stay in Zurich for your grad studies if you can. Harvard is nice to write on your Resume, but you'd do it for the name and nothing else. Grad students in the US are poorly paid and treated, and with 500/month you'll be living on your savings for a couple of years. Besides, East Coast is expensive.
If you wanna write Harvard on your Resume, go to Harvard. If you wanna have a good life, stay in Zurich.

I think I have to agree with what most of the other posters have advised. I assume that you have done enough research on the actual studies you will be doing and reckon that you can cope. Staying in the same place is, of course, more comfortable, but the Harvard prestige will give you more career opportunities. Check out the people who are really important in your field and I guess that you will probably find that they have moved around quite a bit, thereby getting a broader base of experience, which is what employers in accademia and the private sector are looking for. I suspect you will regret it if you don't take this opportunity to broaden your horizons.
