leaving Switzerland, bank and credit card woes

HI All

I have just been told (by someone who is leaving before me) that when you leave CH you can't keep your credit card and will even struggle to keep your bank account.

I will be travelling long term and really need both, does anyone know of a bank that provides these services to someone who will not be living here any more?

Cheers!

The costs depend on your bank. You should call them to find out, although as long as they have an address for you it should be fine to keep an open account (I'm sorry--don't know about credit cards).

I'm sure that retaining the Swiss account would be handy, but it's not indespensible, is it? I can transfer CHF from my US bank account by wire transfer - all you need is the Swiss recipient's bank details - surely the tax authorities are going to provide that?! For US citizens, it's pretty difficult these days to keep a Swiss account if you're not living here - most of the banks won't allow it any more.

I have the same issue but you can keep your account as a so called foreighner account (savings account). All it needs is a home address, not necessarily in Switzerland. Call your bank, or even better go there personally, and seek the personal contact, explaining your plans. Good Luck and safe journey!
