Moving away from Switzerland

Hi All
After 18 years living in Switzerland, my husband and I decided to "repatriate" and move to the UK. I am half swiss and he is British. I would like to hear some opinions about life in the UK, specially concerning the school system. I look forward to moving to the UK. We will live in the Leamington Spa area. So, if anyone has anything to say I would appreciate very much.
It is a shame I only found out about the EF. I want to use it as a platform where I can share my doubts and maybe sell/donate some of the stuff I will need to get rid of. I have spent some time looking around the forum, but found mostly posts contain useful help for people who already live here or plan to. Is anybody in the same situation as ours? Any suggestions what threads to follow?
Thanks a lot for any reply.

Re: Moving away from Switzerland

Here is one to start with.

Much more info available by Google searching 'repatriating to UK' or similar terms.

Good luck! Hope you find a forum for the UK that is equally as helpful as EF; sorry you only discovered it upon your departure from Switzerland.

Hey there, Good luck

I know only London, it is noisy compared to here.
Somehow cost of living there is higher but there are always offers and option that makes the balance.

There are other experienced people were talking on the forum about the topic

Read it and ask there if you have questions

UK to Switzerland - cost of living comparison?

Moving to the UK will be a big change for you and your family - I hope it all works out really well for you. There are many differences between the education system here and in the UK. It might be worth looking in to IB schools in the UK for a more international education. I suppose it depends on what you/your children's plans are for university/jobs etc.

Good luck!

I've never been but I've always like the look for Leamington Spa from what I've seen on TV. Good luck with your move!

Re: Moving away from Switzerland

Hi. Thanks for reply. My daughter will attend school in Leamington Spa. But I also like Warwick or Stradford. Although we would prefer to live close to school.
Thanks also MiniMia. I will need good luck!

Re: Moving away from Switzerland

Leamington Spa is a great place. Lived there for about 18 months. Great quality of life. Good shooping. Everything is there.

Good restaurants and night-life is pretty active. Trains from Leam go to Birmingham and London.

Stratford upon Acon is pretty close too.

I wouldn't live in Warwick. Its quiant and the castle is nice, but there are more things to do in Leam.

Try the restaurant called Wilde's. Great steaks and wine. Owner is a top guy. It's on a street called Parade, basement.

Re: Moving away from Switzerland

Good Luck with the move. I still have a big part of my heart (and my grand-children) in the UK - and get very upset when ex-pats are denigrating 'old Blighty', etc.

How old are your children- as it will make is easier to reply to your question re education.

Thanks Odile..I will leave my heart here..meaning lots of good friends! Thanks to easyjet we can come for short breaks to visit! My daughter will go to a private school called Kingsley. She is very excited...We went there to visit and we feel that this would be a good school for her. She has been in the swiss school since kindergarten. A big change for her!

Thanks a lot KatieB Lu. Unfortunately no IB schools in the area for primary. Only senior and it is in Coventry...we will seriously consider that later!

Thank you all of you for taking the time to respond!
