What to tip removals

Hi,

We are looking to tip our Swiss removal firm who are relocating us back to the UK but we are unsure what is deemed acceptable as a tip and what would be laughed at.

We are thinking CHF100 each, 4 workers, or is this on the too generous side?

Can anyone advise please?

Thanks

Di

Unless they are charging a really low amount and you feel guilty I don't think there is any expectation for tipping them anything. They will no doubt invoice an amount that is the fair and expected payment for which they will be paid.

If this is for one day's work, I'd suggest that it is a bit generous - CHF50 each is probably more like it

How about "tipping" them sandwiches and some drinks during the move? :)

We all know that they'll never survive on that. Tea, that's what they want. Strong enough the spoon stands up in it, having itself just added 100g of sugar. Biscuits won't go amiss either. Bourbons, naturally.

:D

It's th Swiss team the OP is asking about...english style tea will stop work!!

We moved in late September 2011, on a warm day. Coffee to start the day (instant), then they only wanted cold drinks....fizzy Vimto, coke and water were the options. One guy chose Vimto with suspicion, and loved it. on the next drinks, they all chose it. They realized it was not local and so wanted to know where to buy ...instantly disproving for us the "only Swiss products acceptable" story (sorry guys, we brought It with us)

Tip? I have to admit I never even thought of that when we packed up recently...but considering the eye-watering price of the service, I figured they were being more than well compensated.

The Swiss team that unloaded our lorry when we arrived (there were 6 of them) seemed grateful when we gave 100 CHF to the team leader to share between them, and we thought it was a lot by UK standards...until after a few months in Geneva we realised it would have been (not quite!) small change for them!:)
