Cheap, reliable moving company for move to Belgium?

Hi everyone:

I will be moving from Zurich to Belgium over summer. I will need to move the contents of a two-roomed apartment + kitchen and a few boxes of books.

Unfortunately, I don't drive! Otherwise I'd rent a van. So I have been calling various moving companies that I've found on Google for quotes. I'm getting quotes of about 1500 CHF. This seems very high.

My question is, does anyone know of any companies or methods that might get me there cheaper? I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks a lot.

Contact Belgium movers, see if they have some trips booked this way and don't want to go back empty, this might give you a better deal

Re: Cheap, reliable moving company for move to Belgium?

I'm looking for some movers for a partial load (3-4 m3 max!) from Belgium to CH. Any other recommendations than those Belgium Movers? I've contacted Dockx and Movers-Int too (just now, so haven't had a reply yet). I see FranceRemovals has a list of very varied discounted trips, for anyone interested.

Cheers!

Re: Cheap, reliable moving company for move to Belgium?

Well, maybe we can work together? If you could move stuff to Switzerland and I could move it back to Belgium, the move may be cheaper because the moving company would not have to send a truck/van back empty.

The cheapest way would probably be to rent a truck and drive it. But most companies require that trucks be returned to the country in which they were rented. So if we can rent a truck in Switzerland, use it to take my stuff to Belgium, then use it to take your stuff to Switzerland, maybe that would work?

I have contacted quite a few companies, and so far I can't get anything under about 1200 UK pounds for a load of about 16 m3.

This week I'm out of town and will probably be away from email for several days, but if you're interested in trying to work something out, let me know and I'll get back to you after 22 May.

Thanks.

We did this the other way around - from Antwerpen to Evian. We used Interdean: the Belgian end were absolutely fabulous. Words cannot express our thanks to them. However, on the unpacking side, the Geneva team badly let them down. If you stand over them and watch what they are doing, then it should be all right. At the other end, Interdean Belgium are fantastic.

Re: Cheap, reliable moving company for move to Belgium?

Bzz, I might be interested on sharing a return rental, but I can't do it before beg/mid-July because that's when I go home to Brussels and see how much stuff I actually have to move.

Otherwise someone suggested I rent a van in France (eg near Geneva) and return it somewhere else in France (eg at the very north) as a one-way rental, supposing it might be cheaper to do this in just one country.
