Charities in Ticino? ( to give away lots of stuff )

Hey,
my girlfriend's family is moving out and they have a whole lot (as in more than a few carloads) of english books, clothes and such things that they can't bring to the US. Does anyone know if there is a charity that could come and pick up these things? They aren't garbage by any means; a lot of the stuff still has its price tags on them.

Thanks for any help!

You might wish to reach the Salvation Army and enquire they can pick up stuff for eg. to aid the (re)settlement of a refugee or persons belonging to vulnerable groups.

I am unsure if the Brocki ( www.brocki.ch ) operates in TI.

Re: Charities in Ticino? ( to give away lots of stuff )

Where in Tessin are they located?

Here in Lugano there's Caritas and the Red Cross that I know of. I think Caritas accepts most types of items (furniture, toys, etc) but I haven't had a chance to inquire with them (I've got lots of stuff to donate as well).

The Red Cross collects used clothes (as long as they are in good conditions and clean), shoes, belts, bags and the like. You can leave the clothes in any of their bins around town. [EDITED TO ADD: I've checked on their website and it says they also accept children's stuff (source). ]

Also, if they have books and DVDs, no matter in what language, here in Lugano there's a library called BISI (Biblioteca Internazionale della Svizzera Italiana). It's located in via Trevano 29 and they gladly accept book and DVD donations. If you have lots of them, I think they can arrange to come to your place to pick them up.

Also, if your girlfriend's family is near here, I could help them sort the stuff out and take it to the different charities. I don't mind.

Thank you! Going to look up their addresses/phone numbers now! The library is a great tip since they have so many books to donate. Glad we don't have to throw them away and someone can benefit from them.

I've just found out the same library can also be found in Bellinzona, in case that's closer to them.

Here are both addresses and phone numbers:

BISI - Lugano
via Trevano 29
phone: 044 586 93 86
(opening hours: mon-fri 02:00 pm - 06:00 pm)

BISI Bellinzona
via Magoria 10
091 210 60 40
(opening hours: mon-fri 10:00 am - 06:00 pm)

If I can be of any further help, just let me know.
