An option is to use the coins for the public transportation ticket machine.

What I do too is to pay exact amounts, not with all small coins but with a healthy combination of them, for instance 1x5CHF + 5x20Rp + 5x10 Rp.
While I agree and would do the same, the kids didnt have this luxury! lol. Sneaking off to the shop for sweeties

I went into Raiffeisenbank with american money and they turned it into CHF, no fee what so ever, just the days exchange rate... maybe they'd swap for BP's?
Did you notice they had a buy and sell rate on the Dollars? They took the fee you just didn't notice it. Even with my kids piggy bank the bank said they wanted a fee and I said on a childs piggy bank.. oh, she said she didn't see that it was for their account. Childrens account the fee is waived. So put it in a childs account.

I'm not sure what your acronyms mean, but I recently went to a Credit Swiss branch and they have coin counters built into their cash machines. I wouldn't be surprised if other banks offer the same service (free).

They do, we use the one at the Aargauer Kantonalbank in Baden.

I make it a point to use only those little annoying coins only in the parking meters. You would be amazed at how quickly they get used up!

Re: Where to get rid of coins in Basel

When I was living in Kanton Aargau I was going NEUE AARGAUER BANK and I put all my coins in a machine , the machine counted them and then gave me a receipt. With that receipt I go to the cashier and I take my ''big money''. Now, I as I am using all the coins for the washing/drier I only have a huuuge bag with 5 rappen that I can't wait to count.
