A question on the tax refund

Dear all,

I have lived in Switzerland for years and now are leaving permanently. In this case, will I get tax refund at the customs or not, if I purchased some goods before departure?

Anyone has experience on this, and surely about the answer? Thank you very much.

Re: A question on the tax refund

You mean you want to save 8% VAT, of which the handling company changes 4%...

YES. Since I am leaving, it seems possible because the newly bought goods are exported. But I am not a tourist, so I am not sure...

Does the amount you hope to get back offset the amount you'll have to pay to import to your new location?

But anyway you need to announce and pay the tax when enter new customs, right?

Yes, of course. That is my point. Suppose you get back CHF 1000 in VAT for your shiny new purchases as you leave Switzerland. If you have to then pay €800 for import to the new country it's not worth all the paperwork and hassle, is it? Just something to consider.
