What - completely differently in shape and size, but still green?
I lived in Newcastle for three years in the 90s. It'll have changed in the past twenty years I suppose, but I expect it is still a decent place to live. As with any city, there are good places to live and not so good. We lived in Jesmond and Heaton quite happily. Being reasonably far north, the days are short in winter - but long in summer.
The accent might be a challenge though.
"Grim up north" is merely a phrase used by the "soft southern sh*tes" to describe the wonder and beauty of life north of the Watford gap.

Hope you like the rain!
But Newcastle is supposed to be quite a cool city. Better than Carlisle, which is not far away, where I spent 2.5 years... don't move there whatever you do.

I also lived in Newcastle for 4 years in the mid-90's (also in Heaton). These were my halcyon days of being a student there, so that was a slightly different life as compared to living and working there. But, I guess it is still is a very nice place to live; I still have very fond memories of the city (I sometimes have a virtual visit with Google StreetView, surprising sometimes what hasn't changed in the last 20 years)!
The accent isn't so bad, but it varies just like anywhere else. I remember our landlord visiting us once for the rent; I had no clue what he said at the door (despite being a Northener myself), but I just gave him the money and he left.
And the countryside to the west and the north (including the coast), is rather nice indeed.

Newcastle has more rainy days, but less rain in volume than Zürich. The average temperatures have a wider range - the highs are about 4°C higher, the lows a couple of degrees lower in Zürich.

It's certainly cold - but Newcastle is said, so long as you avoid living in the nasty bits, to be a very vibrant and exciting city to live in with friendly people (albeit an accent that might take some getting used to ).

thank you
Your fluent english won't help you very much. I got into a cab at Newcastle airport, in our 20min journey to gateshead, the only thing I understood was the taxi fair, and even that was not pounds but rather puuunnd

Good luck in Newcastle
Its cold up north lass.
You should go and see it
before you move there.
Jobs are not exactly growing
on trees either.
They speak gordie too" so
you may not know what they
are saying to you at first.
Don't expect a Suntan in the
summer its still chilly then.
Good luck.

Points to note:
- End everything you say with "aye" or "pet"
- Coats in winter are for sissies. White skin looks best when it has a corned-beef look about it
- "cannie" doesn't mean "can he?"
- tea will no longer be a drink but will be a light meal
- your boyfriend will have to be referred to as "our lad" - even if there is only one of you, things you possess are "ours"
You'll enjoy it

Hello,
No offence to the folks of the North!
I love it there, spent many a happy
time in Durham.
Shopping in the Metro, mind did loose
my car there a very big car park.
Indeed quite the rest of the country is
the problem with the accent!
The Northern accent very endearing!
Great people, but its still cold up there.
