Hi all,

I'm moving to London in the beginning of May. From your experience what would be the best way to move my stuff in terms of time/cost? (my new employer is not covering the relocation costs... ). ***My stuff should be around 12 m3***

OPTION A) Renting a van in Lausanne and taking it to London. Has any of you done this before? Any tips to share?

OPTION B) Trying to find a transport truck with space available? I've heard this is doable in some places...but don't know how to find it in Lausanne area.

OPTION C) Contracting a Removal Company? (which I believe is ultra expensive ). Is someone interested to share the transport costs with me? My moving date is flexible between end April/mid May.

Thanks in advance for your answers. Any advice will be greatly welcome since I'm in total darkness here

I did Option 1 the other way round when moving UK to Geneva. It was a 4 day rental (long weekend): one day to load, one day to drive there, one day to unload and one day to drive the empty van back.

You could try Patrick Location as I used them once to move here and the price seemed reasonable:

Contact some English removals company that do continental removals and see if they have an empty truck returning to the UK. I know a guy that did this, I think it was Allied or Robertson's or something? I often see UK removal trucks around Lausanne.

Option 1, not that bad a drive and quite enjoyable road trip tbh.

Some friends recently used Movecorp http://www.movecorp.com and recommended them for a move from Zurich to the UK stating that they were considerably cheaper than many other movers. I believe that they themselves also packed everything in boxes before Movecorp arrived.

They did a similar job for us 10 years ago when we came to Switzerland: we didn't have much stuff and were also paying ourselves so we came to a deal whereby we piggy-backed on someone else's removal by having our things transported in a trailer behind their removal lorry. We were flexible as to when our stuff was collected/delivered which also helped with the negotiations. I forget the price now but it was very reasonable.

Following your advice I contacted several Removal companies from UK to see if I could take advantage of their "empty returns" to do a partial load with my stuff.

After reading your comments we are also trying to find a rental car that we could leave closer to london. We came up with the idea of renting a van in GVA airport (french sector) and then leaving the van in the way back in Calais or Lille. This way we wouldn't have to do all the way down to Switzerland.

I'll keep you posted in case this is interesting for someone in the future!

Hi, were you successful in your move? I am moving my stuff from Ticino and from Andermatt to London, target week is 30 May. I would be interested in sharing a truck or ?
I am also doing it on my own, so trying to keep costs as low as possible!
