Exporting personal car from CH to France

Hoping someone can help here as struggling despite having called various offices, we own our vehicle which was previously leased and we are leaving CH shortly, understand that the car will have to be re registered etc in france and know we have to return zurich number plates etc, but here's where we are seriously confused. French authorities said on the phone because the car is for our own personal use we will not pay import duties, but will we be liable for export duties from CH? Car is now 2.5 years old and has been ours from new. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Re: Exporting personal car from CH to France

Swiss export duty is 0%. a.k.a such a thing does not exist for Switzerland.

It may exist in other countries. The French just play safe because they can not know each and every country's tax and duty law..

That's where it's confusing because some websites say export duty is due! But thanks for your input

From the official site:

Quote:
Export duty and value added tax

No customs duty is payable on goods being exported.

Re: Exporting personal car from CH to France

Hi, I am about to relocate from Switzerland to the EU and the moving company told me that I don't have to pay any VAT or custom duty since the vehicle is tax exempted as other personal items belonging to the household.
I will confirm once the move is done but it seems quite straightforward.

Yes, that's correct, not VAT for repatriation.

Re: Exporting personal car from CH to France

Does anyone know or have experience importing two cars from Switzerland to France whereby both cars are on a 'single wechselkennzeichen', i.e. at any point in time only one car can have the license plates?

Does such a situation require a request for a new license plates in Switzerland only to export/import to France? Or one can import the first car, remove the wechselkennzeichen plates, then use them to import the 2nd car?

If your destination is not far away (you have somehow to get back to the other car ), you can store the vehicle on private ground, and it is allowed by French law then this is certainly an option.

For export there are also special export plates available. Unlike the regular ones you can even keep them. See https://www.baselland.ch/politik-und...childer/export
