Bad experience with Pelichet in house move

I know that bad experiences can be had with all removal companies but I promised Pelichet that I would recount my bad experience this week with them for our move back to the UK.

We received an estimate from them in July of 36 cbm for our contents which their assessor came to our house to provide. We, and a competitor company, had estimated 43 cbm and I asked a lot of questions to Pelichet including what the additional cost would be if in fact it was 43 cbm. They replied that it would be 500 CHF additional (on the basis of a dedicated delivery) whilst the original quote they provided was for a shared delivery.

I naively assumed that the additional cost would be the same for a shared delivery and therefore I was shocked when this week the subcontractor (UK company) registered the total load to be 43 cbm and Pelichet then demanded an additional 1591 CHF for this higher volume. Pelichet would not budge, even though this was due to their own low estimate and misleading information they provided and I have been forced to pay this exorbitant charge. Therefore I would strongly recommend people not to use Pelichet for the move to the UK, unless you check every detail of their quote. There were also several other major issues with the move which I do not have the space to describe here. I am a very disappointed customer!

Re: Bad experience with Pelichet in house move

Never assume always have things on paper.

You already knew/expected it would be 43 cubic meters, and thus that the quote was very likely to low and yet you signed for a contract that would allow them to charge full rate for cubic meters above their estimate.

The point of having an assessment is to have a clear quote and if it is to high that is profit for the company, if it is too low that means profit for you. Accepting a quote while also signing for that you'll be paying for everything above the quote is imho simply stupid.

I don't know about the other problems, but this one is not only on them.

Many thanks for your thoughts and I agree that in hindsight I had not nailed down every last comma and full stop. On the other hand this was the first move that we have done in 19 years and I was expecting an honest answer to the question that I had raised on the cost of the potential additional volume. We did not know that it was underestimated, we only suspected that it might be. Anyway this is a warning for other people like me who are not expert in the logistics of moving.

Re: Bad experience with Pelichet in house move

We had the other way round problem when moving from UK - great company, great service with Britannia. But we had to get rid of a lot of stuff because of the size of the lorry quoted - and in fact, the lorry used was much larger than planned, and we could have brought it all.

Caused another issue, as it was too large in thick snow, on a bend, to reach the house, so we had to help carry all the stuff the last 50 metres to the house ... as said, in heavy snow. Then make beds for them and take them out for a meal- as they intended to sleep in the lorry - at minus 15C.
