Not denying that, but when the environment is comfortable, I dont think people strive so much.

This is simply not true. Swiss people are very careful with their money and are mindful of saving and preparing for retirement. You need to get to know some typical Swiss people rather than expats.

Not so long after arriving here, someone asked for my perception of Swiss cooking. I think I said something along the lines of...

“Well, if they don’t expect you to cook it yourself, (fondues, raclette) they will burn it and put it on a plate next to some form of potato”

My opinion hasn’t changed much since.
