CH > US ... reimbursement of AHV to 401K ?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if you can get a reimbursement of your AHV (Pillar 1) contributions in a US 401K account?

Thanks in advance

No, to possible.
AHV/Pillar 1 is like US Social Security and mutually recognized (to some extends)

401K is more like Pillar 2. But AFAIK you can not move one into the other.

Re: CH > US ... reimbursement of AHV to 401K ?

Just wanted to confirm that previous poster is correct.

We talked to a tax attorney that also said this. Basically, pillar 2 is like a bank account and they will refund you the money to another bank account. After you get the money, it's up to you what you want to do with it. You can leave it in a bank account or invest it into a 401K , but they will not refund you that money directly to a 401 K.

HTH,
The Laughing Cow

Edit** I realized after writing this you had asked about pillar 1. In any case, the previous poster is still correct. Pillar 1 also can not be refunded into a 401K.

If you're eligible for reimbursement (depends on your passport; US citizens are not), you can get it reimbursed into any ordinary bank account. From which you can make the payment into your 401k yourself later, if you want.
