Re: Unwanted Furniture> Last Resort options (Zug)

You can rent the mobility van at the okihof (5 chf per hour + 1 chf per km) and use it to throw everything there. I could help if you need.

Most Schneider recycling centres offer a Grümpelbus. Basically for a fixed price (see link) you or a friend hire the van and everything you fill the van with is sorted & recycled for free.

Many thanks... if I can find a driver this looks a good option with a cost of CHF 210.00 (half day).

If I can't find a driver at least I can use this as a bargaining starting point for "man with van"

If you're in an apartment, you could put a flyer into your neighbours' letterboxes to let them know you've got freebies to give away? Tutti.ch and anibis.ch are both excellent sites and am assuming you've revisited your "sales" listings to show now a 0 price? Am also assuming you've tried a "1 franc buy it now" sale on ricardo? For the pain of financial penalty by your landlord (who for sure will charge on the hefty cost of removing your stuff for you), it might be worth putting aside your FB views just this once to utilise the marketplace...Good luck!
People also underestimate those notice boards in Migros . People do read them more than you maybe think . I would put one in all the local branches .

When we left Dübendorf last year the furniture we didn't want (mostly IKEA!) was dismantled into lumps less than 40kg and affixed with stickers purchased from the gemeinde (one per 10kg). They then took everything away with the regular bin collection over two weeks. Simples!

The one thing not mentioned yet is to put it on the street with a 'gratis' sign. It's amazing what people will take. Do it a few days before the move so you have a plan B to fall back on for what doesn't go.

I stuck a few pieces of furniture on the street at 11am, went to lunch, and everything was gone by the time I returned.

Absolutely. When driving round with an empty van it is amazing what you can pick up. My star find has been a double glazed Velux attic skylight. It is always worth having a chat with the person donating if they are around, to ask if there is more stuff to get rid of now or later on. Picking up electronic items is a no brainer, as you can use the item for spares, put your bad parts on it, and dump it free next time you go to a recycling centre. Don't be too shy to ask for manuals and a remote if picking electronic stuff up!
