Re: Leaving Switzerland Permanently

Guess it depends if they want to check it out or not. You've already given them notice that you plan to leave the country so they may well ask for some sort of proof that you haven't.

Re: Leaving Switzerland Permanently

Haven't really given them notice that we might leave. I just have a hard time imagining that bankers have time to follow all their clients. And, if they did find out that you had moved to US, with only a current cash account, what is the damage? Would they bar you permanently from their bank, ask for international fees, etc?

The Swiss side is not the problem, the US is. Why do you think only three banks only bother with US people here anymore?

Maybe give Mrs. Widmer-Schlumpf a warm hand-shake before you leave.

The damage is an account closed immediately and you may have problems getting any funds transferred elsewhere. They may well report the account to the IRS as well. And yes, might decide they never want to do business with you again,

Re: Leaving Switzerland Permanently

My last day in Switzerland is 28.02.
Now I read here different information. Can I de-register 40 or 30 days prior to leaving?
This makes a difference for me if I need to be here two or three more weeks.

Re: Leaving Switzerland Permanently

Seems there is a max exodus of germans going back home. Seems the Swiss are too " bünzlig". The picture explains it

Hey,

I'm not sure, but this might be what you're looking for, might not be complete but covers many of the points:

For who exactly? Archie who left at the end of February or the OP from back in 2009.

Re: Leaving Switzerland Permanently

this happened to me. UBS is really strict on US persons... they closed my account after six months ... that was how long it took them to find out I had deregistered.

Re: Leaving Switzerland Permanently

When leaving Switzerland, one can take all the money from 2nd and 3rd pillar.
How does it work if one owns a Swiss Passport? Is it still possible to take this money?

It's based on residence, citizenship is irrelevant.

Re: Leaving Switzerland Permanently

I'm a US citizen, moving back to the US.

If I deregister, how long does it take UBS to know this? I have some need to have my CHF account open for a month or two to settle debts, etc.
