Re: average cost uk removal?

Waking up an old post... anyone had a recent experience about moving? I am also now looking and in these corona times not sure what is even possible.

Small 65m two bed apartment, 1 adult, 1 kid... so not masses of stuff. Central Switzerland to South East UK... no storage needed.

thx

Re: average cost uk removal?

I'm moving from Cambridge to Zürich, from a two-bed flat, also about 65sqm. I don't really have that many stuff, got quoted between £2-3k for 14cbm. I ended up paying £2.4k as the company that offered £2k does not have the best reviews. I hope it helps.

Do you mind telling me who you used? I just got a significantly higher quote from a Swiss company, but £2-3k sounds reasonable ….

Re: average cost uk removal?

Britannia Removals did a good job for us a year ago during lockdown. All a bit uncertain until a week or so before the move, knowing if they would be able to make it out to Zürich or not. There was a backup in place involving using Swiss storage which was, fortunately, not needed as it would have been a big additional cost! We also divided our belongings so some went to our house and some to storage. This wasn't a problem for them so long as we labelled the stuff for storage and kept it together. So not the cheapest but flexible and friendly.

Incidentally the TR1 form you need for UK customs arrived electronically the day after I applied, but can take 8-12 weeks so apply in good time! For us two weeks at home in quarantine gave us time to unpack the boxes.

Good luck!

Re: average cost uk removal?

I had a relatively small amount to move (couple of suitcases and couple of boxes).

Got silly quotes from Shiply.

Items moved at reasonable cost using sendmybag.com, provided a very good service, DHL as the intermediary.

Tried to get a quote from Britannia movers in June, they wrote down all my details but never called back. Lousy customer service.

Regarding TR1 form, just want to clarify to maybe help someone in the future.

TR1 is not required when you transfer household items yourself.
