| | average cost uk removal?
Can anyone give me an average cost of moving the contents of a large 3 bed apartment back to the UK? I would estimate we have 1 large container full of stuff. Had a very big lorry when we came! Just a ballpark figure would be helpful.
Thanks!

Get UK companies to quote, Swiss are twice the price.

If you look up some uk site they have a ready reckoner that you can put all your stuff in and it works out how much room and then they give you a quote. We are moving 500 cubit feet and is costing £1800 ish. Thats with me doing the packing . Although wouldn't recommend our movers they are a cowboy outfit and I fully expect my stuff to arrive in little pieces!

Oh and forgot to say. You can also register on Shiply.com and the companies bid for you removal. Didn't work for us but I know some have used it and found it worked well.

I obtained a quote for a client recently from a Swiss company and it was really close to what the UK company quoted. This particular Swiss company does some international moves and would be keen to do more, particularly when it is not a busy moving period in Switzerland. They have the trucks and the staff. If they are not busy, any work is better than no work.

Agree with Mrs D. When i moved from U.K to Switzerland, i used a Swiss Company and they charged less then i had been quoted from U.K companys.

Airlines charge too much for extra baggage we know, butI wonder if it might actually be better than a proper mover?
Thanks. |

Thanks. | | | | | The missus came back from the US a few weeks ago and shipped an additional 3 suitcases, and that cost us $160 per piece from Chicago to Zurich with Turkish Airlines. We had initially planned using air couriers or ocean shipping, but the price was $1200 and $800 respectively. I'd def. recommend just checking it in as additional luggage, you could most likely bypass customs paperwork (as we did).

We had a company from Oxford Luker Bros, very good, can't fault them.
Was £1k from Uk to Olten, we now have twice as much stuff so would expect circa £2k going back. We have 2 beds, 2 sofas, wardrobes, tables etc

Thanks. | | | | | We moved only personal effects from UK - I'm talking electronics, clothing, small appliances, bicycles, baby cot and baby furniture etc. We did all the packing in cardboard boxes of varying sizes and the weight of the total shipment came to 600kgs. We paid £300 to ship from the UK to CH. we used deliveryquotecompare.co.uk. It was a bit stressful, (in UK, the driver just stood and watched us struggle to load the truck without helping but in CH, the delivery driver helped us unload everything - although the delivery was about 4 hours late!) but we got everything in one piece except one of the bicycle wheels which got damaged, which we are still trying to claim for.

Thanks! | | | | | Weve just got a quote for moving 8m^3 of furniture from the UK to Oz for 2k GBP, with full packing service http://www.movecorp.co.uk/index.html
The Swiss companies were between 3-5 times more expensive...

Why not contact a firm like Britannia which has franchises all over UK - they moved us here and went back empty! They do part loads too, especially if you are a little flexible with dates.
We used Mr Bardwa at Bardie's removals Britannia, Leicester- highly recommended.

You do all realise, don't you, that the question in the first post was asked over a year ago.
