Quick Question [No reply to Uni application]

I applied to the University of Fribourgs Masters program almost 3 months ago and am waiting for a reply. I was wondering if anyone was out there that has applied to a swiss university and could give me an idea on how long it usually takes to get a response. My apartment lease runs out at the end of this month and I need to know if i should renew or not and time is running out. I applied literally 30 minutes after the applications opened with hopes of a quick response but it didnt happen. Thanks for any information!!

Re: Quick Question

That's a very long time. I would call the equivalent of the admissions secretariat to check that everything's in order. Good luck

Re: Quick Question

What do they say on the University website about letting you know when you will have the response? For example at the UZH (University of Zurich) they will let you between 1 month and 3 months (at least this is what they say on their website). Or, didn't they contacted you after applying to tell you: Dear Bla Bla we will send you a response , the most, in 3 months (let's say).
I want to apply for a Master at the UZH and maybe every University has its own policy.

Re: Quick Question [No reply to Uni application]

I have called the office several times and the only information they give me is when they actually gave my documents to the faculty of science for review (they gave it to the faculty on October 28th, I applied and sent my documents September 15th). I received this email on November 17th, so I guess they had not received any information back from the Faculty at this point. I also received an e-mail from the Faculty of Science asking which concentration I was looking into and immediately gave them a reply, even though this was stated in the application. I never received a response ackowledging they recieved this e-mail. I have also sent another e-mail to the assistant dean asking for any information on when they expect to send out notices, I sent this e-mail a little over a week ago and got no response from him either. Its beginning to get frustrating because as I mentioned earlier I have to know for my apartment, but I also would have to turn in notice to my job, apply for a student visa, and make living and travel arrangements for Fribourg as well. I can not start any of this until I hear a response. Thanks for the help so far!

Wow, that is frustrating indeed. You did what you had to do so I really don't know what to say anymore. Waiting is something I don't like but to wait for a response as important as the admission response is veeery annoying .
Hopefully you will have your answer soon.
Keep us posted!

Re: Quick Question [No reply to Uni application]

These things take time. It may be that faculty meet once a month. Even in the US it often takes 2 to 3 months to make admission decisions, but in Switzerland, it seems to take even longer. Do you have a contact in the faculty? That might be the best way to proceed.

Re: Quick Question [No reply to Uni application]

I applied to UZH (as a visiting student, but I was in the same pool as regular students) in early September and by the time they got my documents overseas, it was October 11. They told me it would be 1-3 months from the date they received my documents. I just now got my acceptance letter last week! It is frustrating as there is so much to plan out but luckily they didn't take the full 3 months to send me my letter. I would definitely email them.

Re: Quick Question [No reply to Uni application]

Britt your response makes me feel a little better about it... I at least am not thinking so much that they just lost or forgot my application . The main reason I am so worried about it is because classes start in 2.5 months, and it is my understanding that a student visa takes about 2 months to obtain. Pretty much just freaking out that even if i get accepted i will not get a visa in time and/or will have trouble finding lodging over there. Thanks for your post though, brings a little hope to me that i will recieve a response soon

Re: Quick Question [No reply to Uni application]

Yeah I'm having the same problem...I'm just now able to go to the consulate on Monday for my student visa, and was told to allow 8-10 weeks, though I need to be there two months from now. I emailed my school about it and they said worst case scenario I could push everything back a semester..not so comforting for me to hear lol.
