I was just sharing which ones I like, but the question was before. Maybe I've not formulated the question right...

Buying in the UK or bringing the GBPs here and buy it here?
Maybe we just didn't know why you were asking the question....

What is the price in the UK?
What is the price here?

Convert the currency rate.....TADAH!!!

Almost certainly its cheaper there though....if you are starting with GBP, rather than CHF as your "base" currency....

Re: Help me decide on these Rolex watches

economisto, this thread started as a reply to the thread that you found. But it was "relocated" as a new thread and therefore it lost a bit of the context

I've been looking around the forum, and as I saw that some of us a real Rolex experts, I was hoping for their mature advice.

The only problem with rolex is everyone will ask you if it's fake
Even in Switzerland? In any other country, I could understand this, but in Switzerland I simply assumed that no one would ever consider wearing a fake. If I see someone wearing a Rolex or carrying a Louis Vuitton bag, I just assume it's genuine.

I know when I bought mine from goldsmiths at liverpool st, if you asked for a discount they gave you one the salesperson told me to say I worked for some company or other and straight away 15% off

Re: Help me decide on these Rolex watches and where to buy

Hey OP,

I have a vintage 1974 Oyster Perpetual which I still wear on and off and it's sweet.

I agree to everyone elses recommendations and suggestions but for some people if you are a Rolex fan, nothing else will do.

From a price perspective, I would recommend that you first select the watch that you want at a store based on the diameter of the dial, the bracelet etc.. and then compare the prices on Amazon.com or Amazon.UK. I am sure that you'll get a better deal there.

You should not have any questions about the Originality of the watch if you buy direct from Amazon and not a seller. It comes with a money back guarantee and a certificate from the Company through Amazon. If you have any questions, you can call Amazon before making a purchase.

In 80% of the cases the in store prices are higher in CH. I've bought multilple TAG watches and an Omega from Amazon and had no concerns.

Cheers.

I don't know any Swiss who own a Rolex, but that's aside from the point.

It could as well be. How many Swiss folks do you see in a watch store anyway?

Re: Help me decide on these Rolex watches and where to buy

If you want a bargain, buy a Swatch or a Tissot and invite your wife for an holiday instead paying too much for marketing. In Cham there is someone who deals with expensive watches, he has somtimes your mentioned watches in stock.

Bullsh*t,
you know the equation that helps you find out how many watches a man needs is as follow:

N+1

Where N is defined by the number of watches that you already have.

Re: Help me decide on these Rolex watches and where to buy

Its quite a personal choice as to which model you go for. If you want to buy brand new then I would suggest try going to buy it at one of the UK airports to ensure you get VAT free AND you should haggle too. The 3 models you've chosen although are nice are more widely available hence are not in great huge demand compared to other Rolex models (I am a watch collector so have a fairly good idea). If one AD doesn't allow for a discount at the airport try another one. Failing that go to any of the authorised dealers in London haggle for a discount and claim the tax back at the airport. 10-20% discount is what you should aim for and that doesn't include VAT refund. If you can get more, good for you.
Your only issue is getting it back to CH...if you can get it back without having to pay the duty/ tax great, if not that's 8% you've got to factor in.
Good luck.

Budget 4K-5K GBP. (I have some savings in the UK that are just getting dust at the bank with the actual saving rates, so I decided to invest in me!)

Other brands that I've looked are Breitling, IWC and Omega (in Omega I have a good friend which is the brand director in another country and could get me a good discount, but I do not like them as much as Rolex)

I have had all 3 brands before and waiting for a my first Rolex soon "Deep Sea", I would personally suggest either Rolex, IWC or Patek Philippe as a classical watch.

I like the Oyster one too. Definitely better looking than the other ones. Do you sell/trade your watches, the Breitling one? Write me a PM if you do.

Just like when you say women have too many shoes - like whats that supposed to mean?

OP, I am personally a fan of the Oyster. But its your money at the end of the day, and its you who'll be wearing the watch on your wrist. Why choose something just because 20 faceless internet strangers like it?

Buy in the UK. It will be cheaper and you will get treated better at the store.

For official prices just go into the store and ask for the catalogue and official price list.

Because Rolex is a "Zuhälteruhr". My mom would worry about me if I wear one... in other parts of the world, especially Asia is it the default status symbol, so it is a cultural thing. I honestly believe that the Rolex vendors on Bahnhofstrasse do in fact heavily rely on tourists. The Chinese and Russian signs saying "We do speak your language" indicate so as well...

Zurich is IWC country, but who really wants to blend in here?
