Even in Switzerland? In any other country, I could understand this, but in Switzerland I simply assumed that no one would ever consider wearing a fake. If I see someone wearing a Rolex or carrying a Louis Vuitton bag, I just assume it's genuine.
The majority of Louis Vuitton bags I see here are fakes! Fake, fake, fake! At least if you buy fake, buy the top quality of fake that no one can see it is a fake.

Budget 4K-5K GBP. (I have some savings in the UK that are just getting dust at the bank with the actual saving rates, so I decided to invest in me!)

Mean while back at the ranch........I am trying to establish some Christmas help to a family (I dont know at all) who has been finacially ed to such an extend that the Christmas has been put on hold for their three kids.

If I give your big Rolex dilemma a few thoughts would you care to give me an idea how I can make a difference in this familys life, as I have only managed to collect CHF 150?

Thanks...much appreciated.

Maybe it's just me but I find Rolex's to be boring. If you're going to spend that much on a watch, why not get one with some character?

..beause some people like boring?!
or better, some people like conservative, which I don't find Rolex to be. They're a tad bit on the tacky side (IMO).

Well I'm not getting your point... or maybe I don't want to get it.

In any case, you haven't helped a lot regarding my question, which is not a dilema. But I'm happy to help (although your question would have been better placed in another thread)

If you were only able to collect 150CHF doesn't say much about your hardwork for this family. Specially in a country were people tend to be generous with those who need it, much more around Xmas.

With that little money you won't be able to do much, but is plenty to give a good Saturday out for the 3 kids...what about a familiy sledging day in the mountains and some nice dinner later?
My 2 cents.

(Now i'm waiting for you to jump on your keyboard and groan to me)

I should add that the first two models you selected are steel and white gold. The third one is stainless steel only. There will be a difference in price that might impact on your decision.

If you are looking for a 36 mm Datejust model in stainless steel only, you could look at this one. My preference is with a Oyster bracelet (not shown) which I think works much better with the smooth bezel. Remember, you can have many different dials. My favorite on this model is a steel Roman numeral dial. Very clean.

Buy in the UK. It will be cheaper and you will get treated better at the store.

For official prices just go into the store and ask for the catalogue and official price list.

I bet he would have never been able to work that out for himself ...

All three look like the sort of watches 60 year old board members wear. The only one who can choose the correct one for him is Mr OP - hence my post re he should be brave enough to make the choice himself. After all, he managed to decide he needed a Rolex ....

Going by most responses to this post, it would seem that the englishforum has a very comfortable set of readers!
Hope none of them get upset rubbing shoulders with a peasant, but I wear a Tissot (Fr. 150.-) & I am still able to keep my appointments on time!

Let me rephrase it: It means that you have 5-10k CHF of disposable income for a watch and you want to spend it in a way that everyone to the last herder in inner Mongolia recognizes it... a Rolex is so distinctive that the entire watch is basically a lable on your wrist - so it is for the people who would also buy themselves a key holder with a huge Mercedes star on it (in case somebody does not recognize the shape of the key).

I met a lot of Rolex owners and they all had one single thing in common: They were all working in sales...

think you need to take a look at the whole rolex range, sure they do some terribly tacky watches, the ones you see all the dodgy street peddlers in far away places selling for $10, they also do a lot of very understated tasteful watches that unless you got a really good look at you wouldn't know it was a rolex.

No I wont groan at you but I guess a groan at me would be in order.

I know I posted in a wrong thread but I was sitting here thinking how I could help this poor family while browsing through EF and your post in particular......and all the sudden the world seemed so ......out of alignment.

I have no input to your choice of watch. Like most people I think taste is individual and that is exactly why there is so many different models and styles. I am however, a master of finding the best prices, but I guess you can do that as well as me by searching the world wide web.

I fully understand you desire for watches and I have quite a few myself, but no Rolex, Breitling, ICW or other very expensive ones so far.

Enjoy your new watch when you get it and merry christmas.
