I know I posted in a wrong thread but I was sitting here thinking how I could help this poor family while browsing through EF and your post in particular......and all the sudden the world seemed so ......out of alignment.
I have no input to your choice of watch. Like most people I think taste is individual and that is exactly why there is so many different models and styles. I am however, a master of finding the best prices, but I guess you can do that as well as me by searching the world wide web.
I fully understand you desire for watches and I have quite a few myself, but no Rolex, Breitling, ICW or other very expensive ones so far.
Enjoy your new watch when you get it and merry christmas.
wow, what a guilt trip, you have no idea who the op is, for all you know he may donate 80% of his monthly salary to shelter. or run marathons every other week for age concern etc etc
what people spend the own money on is no ones business but theres.

What we really need is an income limit to access this forum. I cannot deal with the lower income groups and their rants about why I cannot show off my hard earned money. | The following 3 users would like to thank The Real Stig for this useful post:

what people spend the own money on is no ones business but theres. | | | | | No...not at all. As I wrote, I just spend some time wondering how to raise 2-400 CHF to a family (in DK) who has hit the bottom pretty hard and while sitting doing that, I read about this Rolax issue AND that brought some thoughts to live.
And yes. I don't know if OP ends up buying all three watches and giving two away to charity or if he is giving a lot of money to people in need already and that was not the target of my initial post.
This thread just initiated some thoughts...thats all.

I like the plan. But I did not find a suitable name...

| | Re: Help me decide on these Rolex watches and where to buy | Quote: | | | | | I bet he would have never been able to work that out for himself ...
All three look like the sort of watches 60 year old board members wear. The only one who can choose the correct one for him is Mr OP - hence my post re he should be brave enough to make the choice himself. After all, he managed to decide he needed a Rolex .... | | | | | If he could work it out himself then why is he asking and making this thread? I don't actually remember him asking for opinions on what watch he should buy and was rather just posting which ones he's thinking of before someone asked, 'So which one are you going to get?'

| | Re: Help me decide on these Rolex watches | Quote: | | | | | Thanks for all the comments, but the real question was if buying it in the UK or here. I know that we all have a different taste
I'm just looking at prices and it's not easy to find the official price list in pounds and sFr.
Any idea about airport stores? I'll be in London heathrow and JFK the next week. Is there a nice discount or just the usual std price?
The one I like the most is the Datejust with the black dial, the oyster armband and the steel and white gold case.
I think I saw it in Bahnhofstrs at 8300CHF, which is much more than the 6800$ in the US for example.
Thanks you guys | | | | | Did you not read this post Hedghog where he specifically says that his real question was where to buy it and that he had difficulty getting the official price list?

My question still stands.
Do you know any store in London where I could buy it with a better price than here? Apart from the airport. |

| | Re: Help me decide on these Rolex watches | Quote: | | | | | Apart from the airport. | | | | | About the airport: Last time I had some hours to kill and looked around in ZRH airport. I asked the ladies at Türler how much cheaper their watches are copared to the price of their branch on Bahnhofstrasse - I expected to hear "only 7.6% as this is the VAT"... what I got was a stare I can hardly describe. Answer "The prices are the same of course!" - "But isn't this here duty free?" "Yeah" "Doesn't this mean you should be cheaper because you do not pay the VAT?" "Er, no, why?"
I am still wondering if the lady did not understand me at all, but I can confirm that the watch I looked at had the very same sticker price as in town...

that's very common. I've worked with a big retailer that owns more than 300 airport stores worldwide and they are usually more expensive than on the highstreet.
BTW I've called Mappin&Webb at Heathrow and with the tax free included it cost me more expensive than here!

well in the centre of london you have quite a few "goldsmiths" (chain of jewlers) and "watches of switzerland" - who also have 2nd hand watches iirc give one of them a go. http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/?cm_mmc=...FUjxzAodyk8MpQ http://www.watches-of-switzerland.co.uk/
eta goldsmiths wont give prices of rolex online, so you'll need to phone one of the branches

And then he finally did that, so sorted.
