BEDS & Mattress

Hello,

We are looking for a new bed (larger than the normal 140x180) and are looking for tips on where to find that.

Interio does some which are 180x220 but not really have the look we are after.

We also need one mattress instead of the 2 single ones they are used to here (so an uncomfortable .........)

Thanks in advance.

Re: BEDS & Mattress

160x200 is quite common. Do you need larger than that?

Re: BEDS & Mattress

As I understood it the sizes are roughly equivalent to:

Double 140x200
Queen 160x200
King 180x200

I would guess that sizes other than that would become a pain when trying to buy sheets / blankets?

Re: BEDS & Mattress

indeed; we were looking in Italy at duvets 220X240 but of course our present stuff is something like 200x210.

how tall's tall? My F-i-L is 6'10" and I can ask him where he sourced his bed....likely to be Italy though....

Re: BEDS & Mattress

Why don't you try Ikea or Fly in Dietlikon.
Or maybe Conforama in Wallisellen if you are looking for cheap stuff.
Also, check out Mobitare in Duebendorf, they've got the trendy & expensive sh*t.

Re: BEDS & Mattress

try http://www.matratzen-concord.de/, click on the Swiss icon at the bottom right, find a store and call, you probably would have to order something to be custom made but you can view the mattresses first and pick a combi (or mattress only) that you like.

Just a side note here. I thought the same thing when I got here, the two reasons for the 2 matrresses are:
- Transportation
- Comfort, as each has its individual matress, whenever one moves it doesnt bother the other

Hi Chrissie,

One other reason you might have for two mattresses is the firmness. IF your husband is very tall, he is quite likely to be quite heavy ie 90+Kg. In this case he will need a very firm mattress otherwise he will have back problems. Unless you match his dimensions in one way or the other your firmness requirements will not be the same and mattresses come in only one firmness rating.

As for getting them most of the places have been mentioned but you can of course pop over to the German side where there are many furniture shops that will cater for your needs - also reasonably priced and many deliver!

Why should Italy be so special? My experience of Italian anything (pizza excepted) is that they are rather small - strange!

Re: BEDS & Mattress

Hello. I'm moving over with my husband and son from Australia, and moving our stuff over - well, most of it. Our daughter is staying here and taking our bed. Would anyone know how much a good queen mattress and base is? We currently have an apartment in Merishausen that's furnished but we're moving closer to Zurich for our son's education. We're tossing up whether to buy a bed here or over there. A friend recommended Fly but unfortunately we had to fly home for a family loss and never got there.

Does anyone know a website we can visit, or an approximate price? We only got to Ikea which wasn't good for us as we have bedroom furniture, just not a mattress/base.

Thanks,

Lisa

Re: BEDS & Mattress

We shopped for most of our bedroom furniture in Munich. Prices are quite reasonable and selection was very good. Here is one store that I remember and it is huge. I bought our mattresses here (100x90 - each with a different firmness).

Re: BEDS & Mattress

Thank you very much. Munich is about 2 hours from the northern border, yes? We've only gone as far north as Donoauerschingen yet.

Re: BEDS & Mattress

That sounds about right. I am in Zurich and it is about 3.5 hours to Munich. But we spent a couple long weekends shopping and sightseeing there. Very nice city and great food. Many call it Italy's "northermost city." And prices are very reasonable compared to Switzerland.

For driving directions/distances/times, have a look at www.mappy.com

Good luck

Re: BEDS & Mattress

we got our matress 200x210 from Pfister - they had to order it in and it took about 6 weeks.
After many duvet fights we ended up with a 240x240 duvet which we got from the coop - again had to order it and it took a week. Most of the places e.g. Manor and Coop will order in the duvet covers for you.
Hope you find something!

Re: BEDS & Mattress

When I got my first flat in Zürich I realized that I have nothing to sleep on.

First I went to the IKEA. Their most expensive matratz was okay, however it wasn't available in 200*200cm. In addition a spring based matratz makes me seasick.

I looked around in Zürich just for becoming shocked by the prices. I know it's Switzerland but still. Most of the stores had serious limitations regarding of 200*200cm products, and the few items available in that size cost a fortune.

I googled more and found Matratzenland in Reiden. When I visited them I asked: "Please show me the hardest products you have". Then I chose one and ordered it in 200*200cm. They gave me a friendly price.

In addition they understood that I have nothing to sleep on and they gave me the same type of matratz in smaller size until I receive the large one. For free. I was so grateful.

I brought it home. I was happy.

Three days later (including the weekend) I figured out that I chose a matratz which is too hard. It was uncomfortable for me. I explained the situation, they cancelled my order, and they gave me another type for free to try out and sleep on until I have my new order delivered.

This is what I call Number One customer service. I have no idea what I would have done without their help.

This is why I recommend them: http://matratzenland.ch/
