Does anyone know where to get foam core, razor blades, chipboard, glue, etc?

I'm not an architect, or in your area, but you can get all of these things in the bigger artist supplies shops in Zurich, it should be the same down your way.

It sounds like the sort of things you should be able to find in Jumbo.

Re: Fellow architects, please help me!

Does it have to be foam core - Have you not considered using readily available local materials?

But seriously... go to Bauhaus in Schlieren, ZH (if it's not too far away), and in the Drive in Area section on the left, they have large thick sheets of foam insulation block material, designed to insulate the loft etc. I don't know exactly the types & thicknesses they have etc., but I had some in UK that was about 150mm thick and it reminded me of foam core used for model making (it was not polystyrene but foam). You would also be able to get all the other things you mention there as well. Also a 'Stanley Surform' hand plane is also good for shaping the foam.

Re: Fellow architects, please help me!

Foam core for model and display making is usually 5 and 10mm thick with a thin cover of cardboard, easy to cut and fold. I did see it at an art supply shop in ZH but was expensive. The OP may be better finding the distributor for it (Foamex was one brand I usedto buy in London) and buying it a trade price by the box.

Re: Fellow architects, please help me!

Why don't you just call up an architect and pose as a university student having to be in need of a few supplies and ask where the ideal place would be to get some.

Re: Fellow architects, please help me!

Thanks so much! I think I will go to Zurich to grab some stuff tonight. I also think the rigid insulation could be good idea for the base of my building.

As for the cheese model, I think that would be a hilarious however unprofessional way to start the meeting saying I only use local, sustainable BIO materials that can be reused...and have a bag of crackers on the side.
