Lost and Found

I would like to share an experience and information about Lost and Found Dept of Zurich transport system.

A day before yesterday, I lost my apartment keys somewhere while travelling in public transport in Zurich. And I thought I am not gonna get it. I created a case on the website "" hoping to get that back...

then the very next day, I came to know about this place http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/vbz/en/index/dialogue/lost_and_found_office.html##

When I visited this place, they had my apartment keys! It was such a sigh of relief. They asked for 5CHF for the process and I got my keys.

I do not know if this information is already there in EF.. but this is a nice info to know about if you are living in ZURICH.

If I'm not mistaken, there should be a lost and found in almost every Gemeinde/municipality outside of the city too, just in case!

(I mean at the municipal center for stuff lost outside the reach of public transports)

Re: Lost and Found on Public Transport - a success story

There must be a such depts in each of the canton. but the only problem is finding the exact place it would reach.
Last time, I lost my jacket in the BUS and I registered here assuming that this is the only place it can be found. and I did not get it.

One more thing, this department does not keep items more than 3 months.

Re: Lost and Found on Public Transport - a success story

Aware that this is an old thread.. I just wanted to report that today, 7 days after my nexus 7 tablet was reported lost via the SBB website (lost on the S9 train that connects Luzern and Lenzburg).

I got their email inviting me to pass by to pick it up.

I had lost all hopes. Will see if there's a chance to leave something as a reward to whoever found it and had the nice gesture to give it back to SBB staff.

How many good stories in this thread? Normally one will only find the bad ones. So let's hope things continue to be this way, is great to know through direct facts that this place is unique.

It is too late for you, but you should report the loss of anything on a train at any station on the train's route. You can report this loss to Geneva.

The central SBB-CFF office auctions lost stuff on www.Ricardo.ch if not clamed within 3 months.

Re: Lost and Found on Public Transport - a success story

Another happy reunion: I just realized that I had forgotten my Kindle on a SWISS flight, in early December - only use it when flying, really. Sent an inquiry to the lost and found at the airport (which is in charge of stuff found on planes coming into Zurich), and got an email just five minutes later telling me it had been found and when to pick it up.

Only in Switzerland!

Re: Lost and Found on Public Transport - a success story

Left my jacket on a train from Basel to Geneva. Filled in the online "lost+found" form in English (along with a link to an online shop photo) and 4 days later I'm emailed to say it's found and can be collected from Basel, which was the station I nominated.

With a halbtax the finders fee was 10 CHF.

*happy*

Re: Lost and Found on Public Transport - a success story

Kudos to SBB

I had lost GoPro Hero4 (video recording device) on Dec 5, 2015 while commuting on the train from Zurich to Geneva. It just slipped from my mind to pack it and was left behind on the seat. I realized 2 hours later and lodged a complaint on lost and found website.

On Dec 8, 2015 I received an email from SBB stating that the lost article had been found. My happiness knew no bounds as it is one of the most loved device that my husband owns and Dec 8th, 2015 was his Birthday!!! What an an amazing work by the team of SBB. I thank each and everyone for the effort in locating the device. Thanks a Million!!!!

Re: Lost and Found on Public Transport - a success story

I did a train journey from Zürich to Frankfurt a couple of years ago. Had to change at Basel where I realised my wallet was no longer in my rucksack... small panic .. then a while later my name was called out to go to car 9 where a bunch of armed cops were looking after it. Turns out it was found on the first train I hopped off at Basel and as they had my details including my train ticket they raced it up to the next stop where they handed over to their colleagues.

Re: Lost and Found on Public Transport - a success story

My daughter left a doll in the tram a few years ago in Basel. We called the lost and found by Heuwaage the next day with a description and they had it there. My daughter was over the moon and so were we.

Re: Lost and Found on Public Transport - a success story

Same thing happened to me while transiting from Nairobi to Boston. Amazing how quickly I learnt of my phone was turned in, the only problem the lost and found office will not furnish me with a method to pay the handling fee and I am already in Boston. They insist I find a local to pay and pick it on my behalf which is a bit bizzare since I am willing to pay to have my phone back. Fedex is even willing to arrange pick up on my behalf and charge my credit card. Any advice anyone? Thank you
Tony

Re: Lost and Found on Public Transport - a success story

It was Swiss Air. Mobile was lost on the (ZVV System Tramp 3 in Zurich) but they have it now in their possession already, I talked and confirmed with them but its proving difficult to pay handling fee to them so that they can ship mobile back to me in Boston. Can I mail cash? Can the airline assist? Thanks

Another tramp. Hope you didn't turn left!

Yes, you could mail cash but do they not take credit cards?
