Laptop screen to be replaced

I just managed to brake my laptop's screen and now I have all these lines spreading. Its pretty bad, since my laptop it's quite new, has stunning 17.3 inches High Definition screen (1600 x 900 pixels) which is one of the most appealing parts of this machine.

Do you have any recommendations where I should get this done? Bought it from Interdiscount, in warranty but it doesn't matter since it was my fault

It's a Compaq Presario CQ71

Re: Laptop screen to be replaced

Laptop replacement screens are proprietory - what is the make and model number of yours ?

Interim solution: Connect an external display device ( VGA analog / DVI / HDMI digital )

Re: Laptop screen to be replaced

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You can trash it more or less because Hi Def screens for Laptops cost as much as the price of the laptop itself if you try to replace it. Plus the technician will charge you at least 80 CHF per hour and he won't let you go for anything lesser than 3 hours.

Recommendation from 'jrspet' is the only solution if you want to continue using it.

Re: Laptop screen to be replaced

can you not claim on your house insurance or if bought with a credit card your credit card insurance.

replacing a screen from your own pocket as others have said will cost a fortune, probably more then buying a new laptop.

phone them up and ask them if its covered, dropping laptops in the house is usually covered, some cover damage outside the house, check your policy

Re: Laptop screen to be replaced

who knows? without seeing the machine its pretty hard to diagnose the fault. replacing a screen in a laptop isn't the easiest job in the world either, its pretty easy to do a lot more damage then you already have
