Any luck with Digitech? Our Dell is hosed - big time. I cannot even re-install Windows - it goes for a while and then nothing. Could be the CD drive in addition to needing a new operating system. I need someone to help me at this point. Suggestions welcome.

I hope so, Google translate has his repair clinic listed as a "PC Dentist"... I rather tend to avoid shops that relate the repair experience to having teeth pulled...

Can you boot from a CD? ( Burn a knoppix CD - on another computer - and see if that starts up ). If you can't - chances are you need a new CD drive. You might be able to use a USB one, rather than have the one in the laptop replaced. If you can, then there are ways of checking your harddrive. If you find there's a failure there, then it's probably a simple job to get a new (higher capacity!) harddrive and fit it. I've done this a number of times of different laptops - only once did I need a youtube guide to do it. With new harddrive, you can then attempt to reinstall windows.

What you can/should also do, is get the harddrive out. Put it into a USB disk caddy, and see what you can recover to another computer - photos, music, documents etc..

I have a toshiba laptop whose screen appears to be dead ( actually the screen appears to be extremely dim. I am able to make out the screen layout but not more). Looks like either the back light inverter has a problem (at atleast what I could make out from google search across various Pc forums)
The issue is that the registered support center for Toshiba in Zurich (Volkstweil) charges obnoxiusly high. I had been there for a seperate problem and found the guys at the desk to be quite uninformed about computers (even less than me and that my friends is quite scary )
Is there a decent laptop repair shop within Zurich stad which is reasonable in their prices too?
