Re: Nanomania toys given out at Migros stores

Hi, I was given a glow in the dark one today called Luxibus. I also received Troy, Grimas, K-Putt, Gnarf and Pingping. If your son would like them then just send me your address by PM and I will send them off tomorrow. My 1 year old went bananas when she saw them and has been throwing a tantrum since.

I am now hopping mad. Decided to wait until today to do my shopping so that my son could have the all singing, all dancing glow in the dark super nano that he's been going on about all week.
Do my shopping and manage to spend more than thr required 60 chuffs only to discover that the store has run out of these. This was 9.30 in the morning and I find it hard tobelieve that the whole of Neuchâtel was there spending their 60 chuffs before that so I can only assume that they never actually had any.
They had these convenient bits of paper saying that the had unfortunately run out but we can take the voucher to the store between April 19th and May 5th and get one.
That's nearly 2 months away and more than a month after the promotion finishes so my son is seriously unimpressed.
I could have gone to Aldi if I'd known and saved myself the trip.

MaireZug, I'm glad you provided this link (even if it doesn't apply to Nanomania toys) as our eldest is really into Geo-Mag, another Swiss toy.

This uses incredibly strong bar magnets and there are a lot of them. I guess this is the sort of thing that would cause real problems if more than one was swallowed.

We keep it away from our youngest anyway but we'll be even more vigilant.
Geomag has changed the magnetic bits now, it is the long pokey things that are magnetic and the small, inhalable or swallable balls aren't magnetic anymore. Makes sense. We got this for our kiddo for xmas at home, actually there is more choice of this particular toy back home than here, and all they sell there are the new, safe ones.

Back to Nanos. They are very very appealing to young kids, watch out. The older ones seem to get bored with them quickly, but they are too attractive for the tiny kids.

Re: Nanomania toys given out at Migros stores

My son was very disappointed that our shopping came to 20.30 CHF today and he couldn't convince me to spend any more to get the glow in the dark fellow.

Just wondering if anyone out there happened to get a spare glow in the dark one today or has one and isn't collecting them.

The Migros till by the tram museum (Burgwiese stop, tram 11) had a full-ish box of the blighters this afternoon (about 16.45 ish) if anyone is trying to track one down still.

Please PM me if you have one going spare.

Thanks!

Cheers

"Can I tell if I have a glow in the dark one without opening the wrapper?"
.... said the rabbi to the matron.

I don't know (he said bitterly), 'cos they'd run out when I went (to two stores), but I would guess the wrapper is different.

..Yes, I believe you can tell the difference - the glow in the dark one has a darker wrapper (dark blue).

I have quite a few of those Nanos, thought to collect them for my partner's boy.... however he's still little, so I might give them away soon.

I just can't understand how they work or if I just don't "use" them properly? They are just lying there, they don't stand up as advertised. Yes they wobble along if I push them like marbles, but they don't stand up or anything. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a manual for adults?

Kids just like collecting things - as I mentioned before, stamps and coins are collected and they don't do anything either.

They seem to get most fun out of swapping them. I think the Migros wildlife and ocean stickers had more value though.
Did you guys miss my explanation & photos? You can stand them up, you just need a steady hand and a touch of patience ... which I'm not exhibiting in my rant here!!

If you have the patience and necessary coordination, you can even stack them atop each other!

Nah, the novelty of doing that wears off pretty quickly for a six year old. They really do just enjoy collecting them

I was at Migros today, and bought for more than 60, but did not know about this special 'glow in the dark' ones. They just gave me normal ones and I didnt ask either.

Here is the 20min article. (Google translation here)

Although this wasn't a choking incident, I still think DB has bragging rights to say "I told you so".

If you didn't get a glow-in-the-dark one... they are selling pretty well on Ricardo I guess (around 30-40 ). I'm speechless... you might almost get half of your 60 CHF of shopping back for that thing. That's just crazy.

And you read of parents here giving their children them thinking they are sweets?

I'm not really surprised. When our youngest was less than six months old, if your back was turned for a second you'd find old ladies stuffing boiled sweets or lumps of chocolate into his mouth and he wasn't even on solids.

Most four year olds are past the age of putting everything in their mouth. If you have a special child who still does, then as a parent, you really need to take extra care.

He was driven slowly to hospital where the nano was, as a precaution, fished out of his stomach.

Another child had swallowed one earlier but it passed through.

Phew... we live in dangerous times...

Don't you think that's a bit harsh, Nil? Could happen to any of us... like Angela-74 says, you just turn your back for a second...

You can try all you want but you'll never eliminate all choking/swallowing hazards from a child's environment (what about the coins in your pocket?) or be able to supervise every waking second. Kids will always find an opportunity sometime to put stuff in their mouths, so when it does happen I don't think I'd be so complacent in judging other parents. Just be thankful yours hasn't done the same - yet.

I think Nil was actually commenting on my post where I stated that parents had been giving their children Nanos and telling them they were sweets.

I'm sure she's quite aware of what they get up to when she turns her back!
