so now when the various ticketing machines around the country start to get flooded with various low value Bahts, Jamaican coins and English pence the police will know where to start looking

Especially 10 baht! That could get you 5 trips on the bus!!
Whereas 2chf doesn't even get you 1 trip on the bus!!
ok, granted.. in different cities..

Sometimes, especially when the mechanism on the trolley is worn, you can insert the coin part way so that the interlock releases but so that you can still retrieve the coin. It takes a bit of luck as it doesn't work with the newer mechanisms that are much tighter. It also takes a fair bit of precison as well and may take several attempts.

Tie four baskets together and drag them along behind you on a piece of string.

it seems strange to me that people go through the trouble of carrying strange coins from different countries around just to use on these shopping carts, when they could just as easily carry around a 2 fr coin (which has can be used for things other than just unlocking shopping carts)

If I carry around a US quarter, I can be sure that I won't use it for something else, and so I'll have it when I want it for unlocking a shopping cart.

What happens is I DON'T go through the trouble of going through my coin purse and removing unwanted, unusable coins (and fluff). The point is that the unusable coin is well.... unusable thus always there. Since you can spend a CHF2 coin, it's not always there. | This user would like to thank miniMia for this useful post: | |

If I don't have the right size coin, I find this is a good fall back (one size fits all) - normally have one in my back pocket for emergencies. |

| | Re: Trolley coin miracle | Quote: | | | | | (you tight arse) | | | | | Oh dear. Plastic.
I find it so difficult to source the 50 pence pieces these days, but luckily enough the 1/2 ounze Kruggerand (dia. 27.77mm) is a fair alternative for the 2chf (dia. 27.40mm).
Fortunately, there's always some to be found in bottom of the boot in the Maybach, or so my driver tells me. I often imagine the face of the poor chap who has to push the trolley back from my four parking spaces after I've left the supermarket trolley on the parking lot.
I remain a toff with a heart.
Harry
