so now when the various ticketing machines around the country start to get flooded with various low value Bahts, Jamaican coins and English pence the police will know where to start looking

I'm getting quite a collection of trolleys at home now. I really should re-use them but I always forget to take one when I'm going shopping. And they're only 2 CHF each, so what the heck.
Was this aimed at you then?

Who says that Baht has a low value?!
Especially 10 baht! That could get you 5 trips on the bus!!
Whereas 2chf doesn't even get you 1 trip on the bus!!

ok, granted.. in different cities..

Re: Trolley coin miracle|||

Sometimes, especially when the mechanism on the trolley is worn, you can insert the coin part way so that the interlock releases but so that you can still retrieve the coin. It takes a bit of luck as it doesn't work with the newer mechanisms that are much tighter. It also takes a fair bit of precison as well and may take several attempts.

Re: Trolley coin miracle

it seems strange to me that people go through the trouble of carrying strange coins from different countries around just to use on these shopping carts, when they could just as easily carry around a 2 fr coin (which has can be used for things other than just unlocking shopping carts)

But that's just it. If I carry around a US quarter, I can be sure that I won't use it for something else, and so I'll have it when I want it for unlocking a shopping cart.

i see what you mean and you could also go further by saying that using the quarter frees up your 2 fr to be used in the store. but this requires far too much planning in advance for somebody like myself. either i have the 2 fr on me, or i'm going to try to fit everything into a handbasket. you would be surprised by how much i could fit into a handbasket.

In fact having only a basket helps me save a lot of money as I have to plan carefully and really just concetrate on the necessities and don't end up buying lots of additional stuff spontaneously.

I don't "go through the trouble of carrying" the migro dummy with me. What happens is I DON'T go through the trouble of going through my coin purse and removing unwanted, unusable coins (and fluff). The point is that the unusable coin is well.... unusable thus always there. Since you can spend a CHF2 coin, it's not always there.

Re: Trolley coin miracle

If I don't have the right size coin, I find this is a good fall back (one size fits all) - normally have one in my back pocket for emergencies.

Oh dear. Plastic.

I find it so difficult to source the 50 pence pieces these days, but luckily enough the 1/2 ounze Kruggerand (dia. 27.77mm) is a fair alternative for the 2chf (dia. 27.40mm).

Fortunately, there's always some to be found in bottom of the boot in the Maybach, or so my driver tells me. I often imagine the face of the poor chap who has to push the trolley back from my four parking spaces after I've left the supermarket trolley on the parking lot.

I remain a toff with a heart.
Harry

Agreed ... what car? I've spent several hours have a good long hard stare at the pic and have yet to locate the car.

Just to make sure I'm going back again to have another look .... I may be gone some time.
