Trolley coin miracle

OK, so how many of you, have gone shopping at Migros, grabbed a trolley only to find that you don't have that sacred CHF2 coin that will release your chariot from it's leash, because you tipped the busker at the station, contributed to someone's leaving gift (you tight arse), or had to use a McClean loo at the station.

Yep, I am sure it has happened to all of us at some point.

To get around this, I was looking to make a plastic disc the same size however quiet by accident, I discovered the answer to this problem.

Lady's and Gentlemen allow me to introduce the trusty UK 50 pence piece.

Yes believe or not, that funny looking seven sided silver coin, is a life saver.

If you haven't already, try it.

I got given a 2fr and 1fr size discs on a keyring from my local Landi store when I asked for change to their trolley. I now use that in the various trolleys of Switzerland....

Thai 10 Baht coin works as well, as do the old New Zealand 10 cent pieces

Does this mean the interbank exchange rate could be based on what fits into a Migros trolley?

I'm getting quite a collection of trolleys at home now. I really should re-use them but I always forget to take one when I'm going shopping. And they're only 2 CHF each, so what the heck.

Good idea :-) I don't think i have that British coin, I will try some of the coins that I have kept from various countries.

Because a coin is a coin, even if it's a foreign coin, it is an acquired habit that it will always to be found and put back in the coin-pocket of my wallet.

Also, I don't want to have some token attached to my key-ring : I am too stressed at the idea of having my keys hanging loose in a supermarket (especially considering I have to look after and run after my 2.5 year old daughter) ! I admit it's a bit paranoiac, but better being paranoiac than sorry.

/Paul

But they're great for wheel clamps as well. And when you lose the key to "your" bike lock.

Nice tip, but aren't 50p pieces harder to come by outside Migros than CHF2 ones??

I'm sure they are.. but just as an additional note...
.
I've found that .05p coins are just the same size and weight as .50 chf coins when dealing with the TPG ( transport public geneve ) ticket machines.

not that I advocate walking round with a pocket full of .05p coins.

The 10 Baht coin is very similar to the 2 Euro, about 2% different,

and so similar, that if you try it 10 times in a Swisscom telephone box, it will go through saving you a lot of money. I haven't tried this coin on other EU machines.

The twenty Jamaican Dollar coin is also the same size and design as a 2 Euro coin.
