I need a large amount of soft cotton rope

My next DIY project is something like this:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/61987364..._type=handmade

I want to make a large one to fit in my dining room and need some good quality cotton rope and rather a lot of it. Does anyone know where in Switzerland (or Europe) I may be able to get some? Preferably in different widths so I can work out the best way to do it.

I'd thought of Hornbach but am wondering if maybe another industry uses the product that may be able to supply it to me a bit cheaper

Yes, I certainly have. Did you look at the results as you were making the link? There is not that much available and I was hoping that someone who may use rope in their working environment would know of a place locally. I'd rather not have to order it from China or pay a fortune for it at Hornbach.

Re: I need a large amount of soft cotton rope

I've noticed a rope shop in Wollishofen on the number 7 route, on Seestrasse, just before BHF Wollishofen. Seems to be a boat supply shop.

I might be going by the Coop Brico at Leman Centre (Crissier) later. If I get there I will check as they have a pretty good selection of rope.

I saw this rope shop in Wollishofen, they have lots of different types of rope and cable...I don't know if it will have the kind of rope you are looking for, but...you never know!

Er, yeah, that's why I linked it for you. The first result listed nine dealers in such products in Switzerland alone. Ah! I guess you only looked at the results, not the actual links of the results. Gosh, google's hard work.

I did look at the results. I went through all of the 9 listed dealers on the first link. None of them had a website listed so that I could confirm I was heading to the right sort of store/ business and I can't read german (don't worry I tried google translate too, you don't need to link to that also). I'm not trying to waste anyones time.

You seem to have gotten out of bed on the wrong side today. I've tried to contribute in a meaningful manner to this site, create events and limit the fluff but I think I'll take an EF holiday.

To those of you who posted links and addresses thank you greatly, they're much appreciated

Yep, since a few days. I love your new project! It will be very nice. Do you have any idea of the price for it? (by meter? ) I'll check if I have someone from Turkey who is coming soon, it might be worthed to buy it from there (much cheaper)...

I should be able to tell you that today or tomorrow... How much you think to put in? (I'll ask the prices by meter over there).

Re: I need a large amount of soft cotton rope

Had a look in Coop Brico and at Jumbo and no luck for the type of rope you are looking for. Sorry

Based on the prices of other ropes in CH (that I saw), I think Nil's offer to get some from Turkey would be a great idea. Have you checked how many meters you need for your project? I bet it will not be cheap.

Good luck.

Re: I need a large amount of soft cotton rope

Thanks all. I think I'm going to get a sample of this and see if I can get it to work. I'm guessing I'm going to need about 250 meters and so want to physically try it out before I put a huge order through

Many thanks Nil for the offer, but I'm pretty certain it would exceed your friends baggage allowance

And many thanks to Verbier for trying to find it at coop!

Re: I need a large amount of soft cotton rope

Your cotton rope is not twisted (as my example above shows). Have not found the same style as you show.
