Illegal to trim neighbors invasive bushes

Today I discovered, via my Swiss friend here, that it is illegal for me to cut back my neighbors bush that grows over my fence.

This bush drives me crazy, it causes my Lavender plants to grow outwards from their bed, and also is a horrible thing with thorns and spiky leaves.

My Swiss friend here told me I need to talk to neighbor and tell them (Tell them!)..politely..... they need to cut the bush back, as it is illegal for me to touch it!

Suits me .. I got no place to store the cuttings. (oops ... I was simply shoving the cuttings back into their side!) Also .. I am not wanting to cause any havoc with them in case I need their approval for some building alterations near their boundary. But am assured that this is the correct protocol.

Anyone here ever had this problem of invasive neighbor`s bushes? And if so, what reaction did you receive?

Re: Illegal to trim neighbors invasive bushes

I had the same problem. To the ones on my left I asked politely to trim the bushes back (they were a bit particular), to the ones in front I just told them I would do it and they were happy with it. I guess it depends on your neighbours and your relationship with them. What I would never do is cut anything without their approval.

Re: Illegal to trim neighbors invasive bushes

Meaning that you can cut them back, but only if you ask and they refuse to do it.

Surely much better to ask politely. Hopefully they will just offer to come to your side to have a look and cut them, or tell you you are free to do so if you wish.
Mind you if someone asked me to come over and cut my bush - I think I'd be quite embarrassed! LOL

according to google translate: Super penetrating roots and branches, the neighbor when they are damaging property and his complaint within a period not disposed to be reasonable, hats, and reserve for.

isn't there a commandment against trimming your neighbours bushes

Hey smoky! Why won't you throw a braai with boerewors and lamb chops, so to say fumigate overgrown bushes perpetrator

Re: Illegal to trim neighbors invasive bushes

We got a letter from the administrators of the block of flats next door, requesting we cut back our hedge. Of course we complied. The local rules are that if we didn't do it, they'd be able to do it, charge us for the cost - including the disposal of the trimmings.

Re: Illegal to trim neighbors invasive bushes

Surely the neighbours would be obliged to keep their shrubbery contained?

Having said that, there's no need to be confrontational - you could give them the option of either doing it themselves or you do it and leave the trimmings on their side of the fence.

In our situation, it should be illegal to have to see our neighbors trimming her own bush.... Yep, that's right, you understood well.....

What will he do if you do trim the offending bush? Call the cops? Sue you?
I think you should trim the bush, take the trimmings round with a note
" Fixed that for ya"

Probably also fixed any future relations with the neighbours too.

Just go round and speak with them, most people are quite reasonable here.

How hard do you have not to stare at your neighbours apartment/premises to see something like this?

The question is more: How easy it is to see something that you really don't want to see....

And the answer is:

Way too easy for what we can support!

I find it easier with a powerful set of binoculars.
