Re: Old Laptop: What to do with it?

As an IT geek I would strip it for parts and ebay them if I could be bothered. LCD's are always cracked/smashed and are worth 50-100chf in the right hands.

Send it for recycling but remove the hard drive and put a big nail through the casing + disc platter with a hammer, then fill it with washing up/dirty water. Then send it for recycling. The only near easy fool proof way of making it unrecoverable. Multiple wipes are not enough I can recover virtually anything from a dead disk.

Examples in the past I have switched drive platters from a dead disc to a working one and recovered the data. There's always a way to recover stuff if you're willing to invest the effort.

Re: Old Laptop: What to do with it?

Someone on the forum offered me to have a look at it and try to fix it. So Hubby might be able to use it. I just need to take my finger out of my nose and buy the bit to connect the universal cable...

I'll do it eventually!
