Re: Coming from UK? [food items delivery needed]

I, too, am going to the UK in a few days. I'd love to pick up some items for you at ASDA, but I'm unwilling to guess. I will be buying Swiss chocolate though.

I am new on EF but I am enjoy this thread this morning, so thought I would throw in my 5 rappens worth.

Yes you can get brown sugar, fair trade also maybe not Bio though, and if you like Muscavado/Demerera try Schwartzenbachs in Neiderdorf or any of the Asian supermarkets they have it much cheaper then at Jemoli or Globus. I still want to know what ASDA has that you cant get here? Obviously not Findus Crispy Pancakes, they do those in Migros
Hi

I know that Brown sugar is an inside joke in EF. Welcome by the way

Ah ha I get it Thanks, yep I moved here two years ago and spent some time cursing the fact the supermarkets only stocked caster and granulated. I know now that its possible to find most things with a bit of determination.

If it would take over my car (i.e a massive inflatable barney or something) I couldn't help you.
Don't inflate it before putting it in your car (or while it's in your car).

Depends if it's the size of a bouncy castle. Could be useful in Germany with speed cameras facing the drivers side Barney does 250 in a 130.

Could be x15 boxes of walkers crisps for example. How do I know the OP won't say what it is?

20 easter eggs would take up some space.

Anyway he blew it.

Why so mean? Whatever it is the OP is being so secretive about, it's for their children after all. Why not give the OP a chance to redeem him/herself for that reason alone...

Re: Coming from UK? [food items delivery needed]

Please tell me what this precious mystery food it?

I asked my kids the other day if there is any food they miss from the UK ( only been here 8months though) and they couldn't think of anything but then I have found most of the 'Brit' kind of food - marmite, ready brek can be easily bought in France. I have even found, brown sugar and icing sugar, what an intrepid food explorer I am.

Can someone who has received a pm about this please spill the beans (baked or otherwise)

Honestly... Aggression from the OP when multiple people were trying to help.

Agreed on that unfortunate aspect of the OP's initial responses but I guess it's just me putting on my 'its for the childrens sake' hat I guess. Oh well, ho hum...

It could be argued that if it was for the childrens sake politeness on behalf of the OP would have been apparant. (You've seen me give a very different response to a similar problem recently.)

People did want to help, but why should I make the effort if the OP doesn't?

It's all a bit sad really!

Re: Coming from UK? [food items delivery needed]

Dear Awdhil,

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, my Uncle Bertrand is unable to fulfil your request as he is permanently barred from his local Asda after an incident involving one of the young ladies at the checkout, a tube of Smarties and half a pound of lard.

In order to compensate for my inability to help you, I have started a new thread to see if anyone can get those things for you. Don't worry: I haven't given away your name, so nobody will know it's you.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

DB

Both very valid questions, why the hostility?

I have pallets both chilled and ambient coming from the UK once every 3 or 4 weeks and there is an Asda just up the road from our UK warehouse. There is always room for extra stuff.

So, what is it, and how much of it do you want?
Crumpets! Lots of crumpets! And salted butter! And... Oh hang on, now I remember why I got so fat when I lived in England. Maybe just a few crumpets, no butter.

You can have a drizzle of honey on your crumpets. Or just dunk them in ovomaltine. mmmmm

You, DB, have scarred me for life. Can never look at a tube of Smarties in the eye again.

I'm going this weekend and I'm getting some stuff for Angela anyway. If YOU let me know what it is you want, I can see if I can help you or not.
