Geekwarning: map of where Säntis is visible

This is random enough to be "off-topic", but it _is_ directly related to Switzerland, so I'll go for "doesn't really fit elsewhere".

I recently moved to the Northeast of Switzerland, and it seems wherever you go in the northeast, there are often spectacular views of Säntis and the rest of the Alpstein massiv. It's really cool, and to me fascinating that you can see it from so far away. So I got to wondering, where can I get the best views from?

So, long story short, I put my geek hat on and made a map, based on public altitude data for Switzerland. This data isn't very accurate, or very high resolution, so the results are a little off in various ways, but I find it an interesting guide so I figured maybe some of you other mountain spotters might be interested in the idea too.

Here's a couple of pics: where dark areas offer no view of Säntis, dirty yellow gives a distant view of the summit and bright yellow gives you a better view. The first is a zoomed-out plot of a large part of the northeast, and the second is a close-up of Sankt Gallen town, where the centre is in the valley and you have to climb up on either side if you want to see the mountain.

Thought you lot might like to see it!

Thanks to openstreetmap for the maps and to NASA for the altitude data - if anyone knows another source of free, perhaps better quality altitude data for Switzerland then please let me know!

If it is definitely Switzerland, and this is, it is never off-topic, no matter how weird and wonderful the information is.

I live on the 'wrong' shore of Lake Zürich and on a nice day with föhn we can see Säntis standing out boldly against the sky and in the evening, if the sun shines on the tower, we can see that too.

Far away is a 'vague' phrase.
Walking up the Feldberg in the Black Forest (Germany) we heard a Dad saying to his son, look, Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau. Mr. L and I looked at each other and raised our eyebrows but turning round to check, that's just what we saw, not very big, but clear as you like.
