Short stay in Switzerland with some goods to move

Hello,

I've read through the posts on the forum concerning peoples experiences with moving themselves to Switzerland and crossing the border.

I have a slightly different situation. I'm coming to Switzerland for two months to work on research for my degree (I've been granted a leave of absence), as I have someone I can stay with, and the archives I need are close by.

I'd like to drive down from Germany in a van with my books (about ten boxes) my computer, printer and clothes. Everything I have I've owned for more than six months.

Since I don't live in Switzerland, and don't intend to stay, I'm not sure what I should prepare (if anything) for the customs on the border. I've read about inventories and the like, but that seems to be for people moving permanently to Switzerland to work.

If I'm stopped would I simply tell them I have nothing new and nothing to declare and that I'm only staying a short time?

Pablo

You need to make an inventory and at the border declare them as your household items. These are imported free of tax.

Thank you for the information. I will make an inventory (not a bad thing to have during any move anyway!) and have it prepared.

Best Regards,

Pablo

Sorry--a follow-up question after some thinking. By inventory do you mean fill out a form 1844, just fill out something like a spread sheet with descriptions?
