Last I checked base jumping does not cause cancer. Yes it has risks, but they are not comparable to smoking, and if someone wants to take a risk and base jump, that affects them, and is not polluting our air, and does not include discared cigarette butts that are polluting our environment and causing health problems for themselves and non smokers. So yes, the decent response is to tell them is a bad , unhealthy habit , that just doesn't affect themselves but everyone.

Being no fan of smoking, I think I can safely say that you're being a sanctimonious douche. Do you walk everywhere? Do you live in a cave? Do you not send off all your trash to be dumped in the ocean? Having tried, unsucessfully, to get my grandma (RIP) to stop smoking, the only way anyone is going to stop is to make that decision themselves. They certainly aren't going to do it at the repetitive insistence of some anonymous internet harpy.
