Anyone moving from the US to Switzerland?

I couldn't seem to find the best place for this thread, so decided to put it here. Hoping that it'll work

Is there anyone moving anytime this year from anywhere in the states to Switzerland (preferrably close to Zurich, but anywhere in Switzerland should work as we all know how tiny this country is )?

Basically, I regularly buy things from the states (I know, online shopping back home is just so much better!) and I am looking for someone who will move here with, perhaps, a container (and perhaps the company is paying for this ) and who might have extra space in their container. Please let me know if this is the case. I can ship some things to you (we can discuss how much space/weight you have) and you can inclde these things in your container to Switzerland. I am willing to pay, of course. PM me if you have extra space in your container from the US

Re: Anyone moving from the US to Switzerland?

If you are buying online, why not just change the delivery address to your address in Switzerland?

Loads of people here order stuff online from the US and get it delivered here - or, if that's not possible, get it delivered to a relative in the US and ask them to forward it to you.

It depends on what you are buying... certain large/bulky items cannot be ordered online with a delivery address out of the US.... (am thinking about Overstock in particular). Even when it is possible to ship directly from the US to CH, the shipping cost (often AIR shipment) and the import duties for packages are way too high. Air shippments are quite expensive when it gets heavy. You also have to pay an admin fee (ok, this is small if the order is big), plus the VAT (this is fine and I'm willing to pay), plus an additional duty based on the weight of the package (this is the big part!).

and furniture items most certainly can't be ordered online in the US and ship to CH directly (ok, yes, there are places that will do this, but very rarely and then your selection is very limited). Wanting to order some PBteens stuff and some items from Overstock.

I ordered from Overstock a few (larger) things and had them shipped here... And there was only maybe a 20% increase in cost (for shipping). I understand (in principle) why you would want to go the US route--and I agree it is better. But just wanted to share my experience with overstock if you wanted to do that order through international shipment.

As soon as I go to Overstock's international website (CH one of course), the entire furniture section dissapears!? I assume what you ordered was not from their furniture section then? Or is there a way around this?

btw, how much (as a total %) did you end up paying for import duties? How heavy was the package?

Thanks!
