I would go to the Rhiencenter, anywhere in Germany is way cheaper & probably better!

Based on this thread, I went to Ali's today. As promised it is really cheap at CHF 21 and no waiting time since there were about 7 barbers in.

I would say this is a great place for a basic cut, but not for anything more sophisticated. I went here specifically as I needed beard maintenance and was not happy with the scruffy cut I got. Mostly using clippers and limited 'cleanup' around the edges. Just done a better job with scissors in the bathroom....

Desperate to find a place with some specialist grooming....please let me know if this exists somewhere in/near Basel.

Easy.. barbier near the university or corrine at the barber shop. Its the first result on google. Both of them speak english

Onion Boy, I feel the pain.

Went to Ali's in Gundeli - very basic.

Also went to one called "The Barber Shop" - mentioned below - very recently (just before Christmas), and would definitely NOT recommend this one either.

My German is extremely basic - I am trying , and do WANT to learn - and I think when I was in Ali's it was more of a language thing, and I don't think he fully understood what I wanted.

However, in the Barber Shop, I showed a picture of EXACTLY the way I wanted it done, walked through it three times slowly in english, which was totally fine... and still it was cut completely wrong, cut to about one third of the length I actually wanted it.

It seems like the simplest thing in the world, but has been so difficult for me here so far.

The next time I need one I am thinking of doing it on a trip to a bigger city like maybe Strasbourg or Frankfurt.

Shame I had an ok experience. . Wouldn't say it was fantastic but the best I found so far.

I have a hard head of hair to cut I know this. ( Wavy hairline at the front - hair doens't sit straight )

I did want it cut a specific way...

...which is why I brought the picture of the last time I got it done proper at home.

My new plan is to buy a set of clippers and tell the wife to start training

At least this way I won't have to pay anymore money other than the initial cost...

Therre is also a Coiffeur Ali in the Klybeckstrasse No. 83 near the Bläsiring tram stop. Lots of natty beards come out.

So just a bit of quick feedback.

I did visit Corinne at The Barbershop and found it to be excellent. She listened carefully to what I wanted and took great care to get my beard back into shape, cleaning around the edges etc. I could feel she had done it before! Much better experience than the Ali's I mentioned above.

Not a hugely fancy little shop, but I'll be going back.
