We recently we came across this Aladins Cave of old farm equipment, nic nacs and antiques just outside Walenstadt. It's run by Paul, a retired farmer who had a heart attack 2 years ago and had to give up the schnapps. It doesn't stop him from offering it to visitors though, even (especially) at breakfast time - he seemed pretty offended when I refused, but warmed again when I accepted a Landi Farmer beer. Be warned though, his dialect is pretty unique .
He seems to know the prices of just about everything off the top of his head, but I expect he makes most of them up, depending on who's asking. I'm sure he would welcome a haggle though. I also reckon that if someone came along and offered to buy the lot he would refuse, as he would be heart broken at the thought of nothing to potter around with all day. He really is a lovely old chap.
If you're driving, leave Walendstadt on the Alte Landstrasse towards Berschis and Flums and it's about 1km on the right. I guess you could walk it from the BH in 15 or 20 minutes.
As you can see, the place is very difficult to miss
These old goat bells were offered to us at 50 chuffs a pop, including the leather collar.
This cow bell was my favourite though, from 1949 and going for 300.
The most expensive though is the one third from the right from the 1880's (looks like the original leather too), going for 1000. (the ones on the left are for tourists he told us, with a slight sneer)
And this matching trio (they're pretty big) for 2000 for all 3.
He also has carriages, old wicker prams and a few things that Santa might have left behind.
We came away with a few old copper pots for the garden, a very loud and solid bell (English pup last orders type), 2 late 1800's framed engravings of French Cavalry officers on Arabian horses and an old wooden bird house for 100 chufs. I'm going to install the bell on the outside corner of our house so visitors don't have to wander around the farm looking for us. I guess the church warden in Flums at the bottom of the valley may be making a complaint before long though about the competing noise.
