Winter For The First Time

Hello,

I'll be relocating to Switzerland (Baden) from the Philippines in late September and this is the first time I'll be experiencing winter. Unfortunately, I couldn't buy any winter clothes here in the Philippines, except for the few shops selling export overruns. Even then, the choices are very limited to jackets, ski gear, the occasional trench coat, but that's about it. Fortunately, my wife is in the US right now and we're thinking of taking advantage of the winter clothing sales. Any tips on what I should ask the wife to buy?

Thanks.

Thanks, Fraser. Looks like a couple of thick jackets, some winter shoes, and a pair of gloves should be in order.

Athleticum is the store to go to. They will have everything you need without schleeping it across the gloab.

Don't forget to get an umbrella. A compact one which will fit into a bag or coat pocket is best. There are plenty of cheap ones in the shops here.

When it decides to rain here, it can really throw it down.

That's actually one of the things on top of the shipping list. I was taking a stroll one early evening on my first trip there last June and got caught in the rain. It was so cold and I was afraid I was going to come down with a fever and I had an interview the following day!

I suggest you bring a good quality umbrella from Manila!! The ones here are simply crappy - I should know, I've bought umbrellas between the price range of 5 CHF and 40 CHF and so far they all ended up in one place after being used for a couple of times - in the trash bin!!! Or maybe I don't know how to use an umbrella properly???
