1 spare packing box from a move - what are the most expensive things here to pack?

Hi all - we're finalising our move over, and will have 1 or 2 spare boxes without our move which are paid for and included. We've already accounted for the furniture we're moved and our clothes / personal belongings and bed clothes etc. So what we're left with is 2 medium sized packing boxes that we can fill with other items. The idea is to bring things we'll defininitely use, that are cheaper to get at home than here, as the shipping is already covered.

I've been doing some hunting / reading (man there is a LOT of brilliant stuff on these boards!!!) and reckon the biggest savings are in Toiletries (razor blades, paracetamol etc) and clothes. Also some items which are harder to get over here (Guinness and real tea!)

Again we're not planning on doing this each week but it does seem to make sense to use this opportunity. Are they the main sort of consumable items which people would pack if they were in our shoes?

Cheers
K

No problem getting Guinness, the Co-op stocks it. They also do St Peter's Cream Stout which I think is better, but I may be opening a can of worms there...

Linens (towels and bedding)
Pans/cookware
Decorative items for house (I find that the selection here is very minimal and expensive)

And of course.......

The ever-sacred brown sugar!!!

Be careful though. If I am not mistaken, the Swiss Authorities frown upon shipping food items unless they are specifically OK and/or authorised in advance.

If you have allergy sensitivies to Laundry detergents, you might want to bring some to tide you over until you can find one here that works for you.

Re: 1 spare packing box from a move - what are the most expensive things here to pack

Going through some troubles with laundry soap or maybe shower gel here, I'll second the clangers regarding packing some laundry / toiletry stuff to tide you over or fall back on in case you can't find something that agrees with you here.

Also though, I'll go in with everyone else regarding basic medication like paracetamol / tylenol and allergy meds because they really are *that much* more expensive here.

Among things missed from back in the old country () are pillows and other bedding items, particularly as we come toward summer time as here you get fitted sheets (microfiber, satin'ish and jersey knit) and then douvet / pillowcase sets rather than fitted and flat sheets with pillow cases. I miss my flat sheets and actually, crisp cotton sheets in general. (Empty douvet cover works in a pinch, but still...)

Kitchen items also such as favorite jams (no concord grape that I've found at normal groceries here), brown sugar (here but different, scarce and expensive in comparison), oatmeal (different or expensive), cake flour, "good sized" bottles of pure vanilla extract (I believe can be found but expensive and scarce). All these things can be had but often at 2 or 3 (or more!) times the cost that I was accustomed to paying before, not necessities but "nice to have" for sure.

Re: 1 spare packing box from a move - what are the most expensive things here to pack

Hi all - thanks so much for the info! What I've taken from that all is (not a big baker so might ignore the brown sugar / flavourings advice ) :
- drugs such as paracetamol, anti histamin etc
- bed clothes
- basic kitchen cooking items - fans etc
- transformers / adapters
- extra clothes

Thanks so much!

You'll definitely need a whole case of deodorant for all the sweating you're going to be doing!!!!
