Recycling computers?

Does anyone know if there is any organization that recycles old, but functional, computers and other electronic goods (e.g. DVD players). They would need to be collected (from Bern) as we don't have a car.

Just take them into Interdiscount or Migros.

Whenever you buy something electrical in Switzerland, there is a small recycling tax added to cover the cost of getting rid of your old stuff.

Re: Recycling computers?

Does that apply if you have not purchased the new kit from there?

No problems there. I recently got rid of some old electrical stuff that I bought over from the UK 12 years ago.

The official recycling org in Switzerland is called SWICO. They'll collect old electronic goods from companies for free. You just have to fill in a form and they'll drop off a pallet which they'll pick up again after the time you defined.

Private customers can simply take their old electronics to any store where similar products are sold. Mediamarkt in Basel, for example, has a two large containers where you can just go by and throw in your stuff.

Re: Recycling computers?

I have 2 computers (bought in US) that I need to recycle. Interdiscount guy told me, just bring them in (computers, tablet, DVD player etc), no problem, doesn't matter where you bought them. I believe it's the same at Mediamarkt etc.

Just take them to any shop which sells electronics devices. Nobody checks if they're from CH or not. It would cost too much to check.

Mediamarkt in Dietlikon has a skip outside the rear entrance to the underground parking.
