Hi guys.. just thought Id ask a question where do I go to have some papers copied and certified. Back home we just find a JP or cop to do it for us and there everywhere.. but Im not so sure about here.

Do you mean certifying a photocopy is a true copy and has not beeen altered? Ask at your Embassy or a Notary.

I had to do this for my mother's will. I looked up 'Notaire' in the phonebook, chose the nearest one, rang to check that they'd do this (and could read english in this particular case), then just popped along and they did the deed on the spot. Cost me 35 francs, but that was ten years ago.

The OCP ?

In our region, the Gemeinde / Stadt Verwaltung does it to certify a document as a true copy ( complete with a signature and seal plus an invoice - was CHF5 per foliol ). They did it even for my foreign document. They do not take your photocopies, but instead charge you for that privilege made in front of them.

I got some legal documents certified at the British Consulate in Geneva.

It depends what documents.

For an official VAUD document, just get your copy, then go or phone to the city hall and ask.
In case of need of a notary, as if you need to sign an official document in front of a notary, your ambassy/consular office can help, at a much lower cost than a notary.

Yeah usually there is a little old lady or man who sits at a table certifying documents in the middle of the shopping centre back home. But I reckon Ill head round to the Aussie mission to the UN. Its only just around the corner.

It's 20fr per documment at my Consulate, it is a few francs (2 or 5, can't remember) at our local Commune.
