I am left handed, and when I was in the primary school I was almost forced to start writing with my right hand, which I did, fortunately later on they just let me be.. I don't think nowadays it is still an issue, being left handed I mean.. |

It's statistically proven that left handers have proportionally more people in the +140 IQ bracket - which is the 'genius' bracket.
Left handers are also over represented as astronauts and leaders.
Statistically, left handers are better lovers, and male left handers have larger sexual organs.
Here is a list of some left handers that are in the genius bracket, well endowed and excellent lovers: -

My sis and I are both lefties, our father was naturally lefty but was forced (as some others have described) to use his right hand.
My father developed (?) a stutter afterwards, the forced switch was blamed for this, so my folks went to great pains to ensure that each of us kids were allowed to develop our handedness naturally. We have 2 lefties and 3 righties among us kids.

I am left-handed as are most of my family. My father and elder brother were 'forced' into becoming right-handed. I don't think this happens any more which may account for the increase in numbers. I would not call myself ambidextrous but am not 100% left-handed.
When my younger sister got married, seven of us were left-handed: bride & groom, two bridesmaids, two witnesses and registrar |

Because machinery, etc was/is made for right-handed people, left-handed people were more likely to have accidents, and it was rare to find someone over the age of 80 and left-handed.
That no longer seems to be the case, however - I just can't remember when it started to change. But I do recall the same statistic.

I am Swiss and left-handed. When I was in primary school in Switzerland I had the hardest times writing with a fountain pen. It would always smear as I was moving from left to right with the side palm of my hand smearing the wet ink. In writing class I usually had to rewrite a lot of my assignments. Lots of fun memories. With the increasing prevalence of computers in school writing with the left or right will play less of a role in education. I can do everything with my left hand apart from write, I was always a left handed gymnast and when learning to knit as a child it did it left handed & backwards. Just over a year ago I lost the use of my right arm for a while & it was no bother to switch my computer mouse to the left side. Never did figure out the writing...

In mexico my parents had to buy her special chairs for the school so she doesnt have dificulties to write. Now with my babys im actually encouraging them to use both hands, not making pressure of course. Now I do almost everything with right hand, but when it comes to make my nails i can do them also with the left

Lefthanders tend to be more ambidexterous than righthanders.I have always thought this is because we growup using a lot of right handed tools and gadgets (eg:scissors) get shown how to do things by righthanders (eg: holding bats and raquets, throwing etc) and items such as door handles which, when ot a nuetral style, tend to be positioned for righthanders.
I recall hearing that left handers tend to be more creative and am waiting patiently to find out what my hidden, creative talent might be.
I have also been told that we tend to score lower on spatial awareness tests - with the reason being because we don't develop such a dominateside as right handers do. (Hhhmm, next time you are on a flight that goes into cloud, check to see if your pilot is right handed...)
Personally,I have found that lefthanders tend to get more disorientated under the water when I am teaching them to eskimo roll a kayak.
Books are bound for righthanders, but I used to be able to get my cheque books bound on the other side to facilitate me being able to write in the margin. I paddle right handed, am equally proficent ( or deficent) in using tennis raquets and cricketbats with either hand and am hopelesswith left handed scissor blades. As a nine year old, I had a year of being told to use my right hand for writing at school. It had something to do with an eye test that supposedly had all the left handers diagnosed as being left or right sighted. THe right handers in the class got to use ink pens that year, whilst I was told to keep using a pencil until I got better at being a righty. The following year I went back to being a lefty. NOw,as a teacher, I would not ever consider changing a child from the hand they are most comfortable in using.
