What Swiss watch to buy & where?

My cousin just phoned me from Canada with this question:

He's got a bit of extra $$$ and wants to buy a Swiss watch but doesn't know what brand is best -it's not about what he likes etc but rather what others like...

1. What brand -his budget is 7.000 chf
2. Where to buy it? can you tell me where it would be cheapest? Switzerland, Canada or the USA? can you name stores?

Cheers all!

Re: What Swiss watch to buy & where?

IWC, Rolex, Panerai are top of the list for me and within this price range.

I bought an IWC and Panerai from Modern Jewels on ebay, the owner name is Gary (based in Philly) and he's super awesome, fast and reliable person.

You would probably be able to get upto 35% off IWC, 30% of Rolex and 20% off Panerai, forget about buying from CH, this is market for super rich (dumb) people who would like to show off having extra money and not being practical on how to get the best deal.

Re: What Swiss watch to buy & where?

with the chf so strong I wouldn't be buying here, read on other forums of people going to saudi to buy watches and still saving money even after taking the cost of the flights into account.

Re: What Swiss watch to buy & where?

I bought a Watch from www.uhrenmix.de in january this year. They deducted the german VAT, and when I received it, I paid the swiss VAT. I ended up saving 40% compared to buying it in Bahnhofstrasse in Zürich.

The only thing, I was not happy about, was paying it in advance, but after looking comments about them up on the internet, I purchased from them anyway.

Doc.

Are there any customs or import duties attached, or does the VAT cover this? I've been slugged 20chf import fees on 100chf items, although most of that is probably a processing fee

If he only has $7,000 for a watch then why doesnt he just hop on a flight to Seoul Korea where 80% of all fake Swiss Watchs are made? He could get something very nice for less than $40. Unless of course he wants a Rolex. The majority of Rolexs are made in Japan, and then shipped to Bangkok and Paris to be resold at "black markets"....

Saves him some money, he can buy 10 watchs, and get a free vacation. I bought my wife a Patek for Euro57,000 for the birth of our first child. She was very afraid to wear it anywhere, even to nice dinner events (we have a history of having to go back to the jewelry store to replace missing stones). We bought 2 knock-offs in Asia that were damn near perfect and she wears one every day. In my opinion it was a bit of a waste for that much money, although Im sure the kids will like it when they get older.

You paid 20 CHF, normally it's 7.6 CHF VAT + 12.4 CHF Admin stuff. you will defo pay only 7.6 % VAT on a watch, i never paid more and i bought already 4 watches from abroad

I don't find it wise advising to buy a counterfeit here, OP is asking for original Swiss watch within a price range not a vacation in Korea and a punch of counterfeits...once someone is used to wearing decent original watches, you can't bring this subject on the table

I agree to disagree my friend. Most of my watchs dont normally leave Switzerland but I do like a nice watch that I dont have to worry about when I travel. Then again, no one in the Western Hemisphere seems to know what the value of a decent watch is. They think Rolex is the cream of the crop!!!!!
