Looking for a an economical specs/glasses store

Hi All,

Visited fielmann store for my glasses yesterday. They have great variety and price range. However, I am looking for some economical stores where I can get my new glasses(frame+lens) in range of 250/300CHF (ZIESS, ESSILOR LENS). Any clue where I can get decent glasses at such a price?

Cheers,
Amita

Re: Looking for a an economical specs/glasses store

Welcome to the forum!

In a word, no. The cheapest I found was Visilab at HB and I paid around 500 CHF for a "no-name" pair. The last pair I got, I bought in the UK on a recent visit, dropped into Vision Express in the morning, got new glasses in the afternoon, no appointment needed.

Fielmann is normally as cheap as it gets in der Schweiz. Some people go to Konstanz to buy glasses and save a bit of cash, but perhaps the cheapest possibility is buying online, if you know your requirements well - check out this thread for a good discussion of the pros and pitfalls: http://www.englishforum.ch/general-off-topic/100158-buying-glasses-online.html

If you do not mind traveling an extra mile to the german town Weil am Rhein close to Basel you can get good economical ones. We have got it ordered there and it worked great for us. They take about a week to order lenses and it means two trips for you to Basel.

Sorry Amita, you are unlikely to get Zeiss at that price even in the US, let alone here in Switzerland.

Meanwhile, if you're looking for Zeiss product, perhaps trying the Zeiss website to find locations will help make a start.

You can "always" go back to Fielmann to check out the frame selection, making sure to note every detail about the frame, and see if you can find matchup of frame you want + Zeiss lenses + a price you like, all at the same time.

Buy in the UK online, you can choose the lenses from under £25 delivered.

www.exclusiveeyes.co.uk

About 1 week so the same as going to Germany but way more choice & in English!

I second Fielman. They often have a deal for CHF 49-79 inkl. lenses. Non-reflective coating is another CHF 40 and the eye test was free. I trailed lenses through them for free too.

My very similar looking pair from Visilab cost CHF 400+.
